SantaThing Entry #371

Who Receives?

LibraryThing user laze

Secret Santa

LibraryThing user laze's Secret Santa was LibraryThing user elgatoazabache!

Recipient's book tastes

My favorite books from SantaThing in the past have introduced me to new authors. I enjoy Japanese fiction (English translation) from the early 20th century until current times, haiku (I've been looking for a good book on Issa), Eastern European fiction (Poland, Lithuania specifically), histories or studies of very specific subcultures (or sub-sub cultures), deep dives on specific cinematic styles/periods, histories of unusual or rare music genres, etc. I certainly don't mind US fiction either - some themes I enjoy are time travel, coming of age, or just downright experimental/odd.

Do not get

Christian, romance, popular fiction, cookbooks

Other advice/preferences

My LT collections are up-to-date.

LibraryThing user laze: Thanks for the great picks and the wonderful suggestions here. As with every year, I make note of the other books that were suggested and look back when I'm looking for what to read next. (Dec 27, 2023, 12:07pm)
LibraryThing user katemcangus: checked and ordered (Dec 11, 2023, 3:06pm)
LibraryThing user elgatoazabache: Happy santathing Laze! I hope you enjoy your books!

To librarything, I struggled with finding a book for the remaining 8 dollars. If Mountains of Parnassus doesn't work (it is slightly over price) please substitute for either Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse Five (9780440180296) or Dan Simmons' Hyperion (9780553283686). (Dec 3, 2023, 5:46pm)
LibraryThing user elgatoazabache: Toshikazu Kawaguchi, Before the Coffee Gets Cold (Dec 3, 2023, 5:22pm)
LibraryThing user elgatoazabache: Sayaka Murata, Convenience Store Woman (Dec 3, 2023, 4:33pm)
LibraryThing user elgatoazabache: Potential volume of Issa's works: Spring Of My Life & Selected Haiku, Kobayashi Issa (Dec 3, 2023, 3:54pm)
LibraryThing user EerierIdyllMeme: Memory Police (Nov 30, 2023, 1:11am)
LibraryThing user dacejav: Doom 94 by Jānis Joņevs - I loved this coming-of-age story about 1990s alternative metal subculture in a provincial town Jelgava, Latvia.
