Continuing the intriguing saga of 'Silent Torment'. The year is 1855 - Lizzie Cameron is thirty-five and Rosalie, thirteen. Lizzie and Marcus Van Der Duim live together in Littleborough, Lancashire. They have not been blessed with children, although Lizzie sees Rosalie as her own daughter. Marcus's first wife, Belle, his son, Jack and his ex-best friend, Andries, are missing, presumed dead, after their ship, 'The William Brown' sank off Newfoundland. Robert Cameron has discovered he is the father of Rosalie and is now actively seeking Kate Hemingway, Rosalie's birth mother. Lizzie's own emotional search for Kate, lies uneasily on her conscience. Their potential meeting could irrevocably change her own relationship with Rosalie, an integral element of the plot.
