1 post | 1 reading
Pádraig O’Callaghan (1888 – 1969), born and bred in the Dingle Gaeltacht, was a fluent Irish speaker and passionate advocate for the Irish language. He was a travelling teacher, a Volunteer during Ireland’s fight for independence and a Civil War internee, who later became principal of Knockanure National School. He married Elizabeth Cronin of Knockanure and they raised four children: Austin, Máighréad, Brendan and Tony. In his memoirs, written as a 77 year old, he recalls an eventful life lived in service of country, community and family.
