A nostalgia read for me, this belonged to my Mum when she was a child. While the story itself mostly holds up and has a lovely naive innocence to it, plus decent stakes - it opens with the bus Annette is on getting hijacked by an escaped prisoner - some of the characterisation has not aged well (the medicine wheel is an old Indian site with religious significance and the sole Indian character, a child - faces discrimination at every turn)
