Lirael has been training to kill a version of herself on a parallel Earth. But she's beginning to suspect she is not a good person.
The two Earths are nearly identical. Two copies of every city, building, even person. But people from second Earth know two versions of the same thing cannot exist. Their who planet is slowly disappearing. Lira has been trained to learn everything she can about her duplicate to find, assassinate, and replace her.
The Unquiet was the only book (other than This Savage Song) that I bought in July. My book buying ban was ALMOST successful this month. Almost.
