Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard written by Mercer Mayer in 1973 is a great Halloween book for children. It is about a wizard coming to stay at a boarding home and creating chaos for the host and guests. This book has not won any awards, but is still a great read!

This book was published in 1973 and is a great fantasy book. It is about a boarding house that houses a wizard. He keeps causing issues in the house and the guest keep complaining. Mrs. Beggs casts her own spell to banish him. Then the guests are bored and something else shows up. I think this is a fun book to read to older kids around halloween time and get their imaginations going.

Weird things started happening around the house so Mrs. Beggs did witchcraft to have some animals tie him up and take him out. He ended up breaking free and tying up all the animals and coming back to the house as an animal.

Z. P. Alabasium, a wizard, moved into Mrs. Beggs boarding house. After he moved in, weird things started to happen such as withered flowers and reptiles in beds. When Mrs. Beggs calls for help, the wizard turned the help into a ram! To fix this problem, the landlady used a book of witchcraft to be rid of the wizard. Once the houseguests start feeling bored since the wizard left, a creature in a black cloak arrived at the door with a suitcase.

Published in 1973 — This book was later released as, “The Wizard Comes to Town” rather than “Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard”. A wizards comes into Mrs. Beggs house during this book and it turns out the Mrs. Beggs is a witch and she uses her powers and does some crazy things to shoo the wizard away.
