A retelling of the legend of Rumplestiltskin. You know the fairytale of the miller's daughter who was commanded by the king to spin straw into gold and how she did it with the help of a mysterious man with a secret name. This is what really happened.Seventeen-year-old Nor survives by conning the gullible. When Nor finds a captured faerie in the woods, she rescues him, despite the dire warnings about fairies being dangerous (possibly child-eating) creatures. In return, the beautiful and mysterious Pel gifts Nor with a magical golden thread. This inspires Nor to sell villagers straw that turns into gold. But the future king, Prince Casper, comes upon her and sees through Nor's scheme. The prince demands that she spin a room of straw into gold and as her reward, he will marry her. Of course, should she refuse or fail, the consequences will be dire. With Pel's secret help, Nor is able to complete the task. However, life at the palace is a complicated balancing act as Nor must decide between marrying Casper or finding freedom with Pel. And when a faerie army attacks the city, Nor discovers Pel has been hiding his true identity, one which could ruin the lives of everyone Nor loves.

Pickpick

I love the Rumpelstiltskin tale, so I was inclined to like this book. In many ways it reads like a novice novel- there is a lot of sudden love and telling not showing- but that being said, I still enjoyed this book. It ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I hope there‘s a second book in the works.
