In the Autumn of 1941, the war is going badly for Britain and its allies. If the tide is going to be turned against Hitler, a new weapon is desperately needed. In Cambridge, brilliant history professor Tom Wilde is asked by an American intelligence officer to help smuggle a mysterious package out of Nazi Germany - something so secret, even Hitler himself doesn't know of its existence. Posing as a German-American industrialist, Wilde soon discovers the shocking truth about the 'package', and why the Nazis will stop at nothing to prevent it leaving Germany. With ruthless killers loyal to Martin Bormann hunting him down, Wilde makes a desperate gamble on an unlikely escape route. But even if he reaches England alive, that will not be the end of his ordeal. Wilde is now convinced that the truth he has discovered must remain hidden, even if it means betraying the country he loves . . . The stunning new 'what if?' thriller from Sunday Times bestseller, Rory Clements. A entertaining yet predictable read. Well researched and easy to read.

It‘s 1941 and Professor Tom Wilde has been sent on a mission by the Americans to retrieve a package from Germany.
He is told nothing about the package and is working blind and only when he gets behind enemy lines does he realise the significance of what has been entrusted to him.
The package could blow the war sky high and affect the outcome.
But others know this too so are relentlessly pursuing him to stop it getting into enemy hands.

I have just had to conclude, though, that it really wasn‘t for me at all. It‘s a boy‘s own style story of spies and secret agents (rather than the literal battle fields) that follows a Cambridge professor as he accepts a top secret mission to rescue a parcel that might just bring peace. I was able to guess the ‘secret‘ pretty quickly. It just didn't grip me.

The year is 1941 and the seemingly mild mannered professor Tom Wilde has been approached by American intelligence to retrieve a package from Germany that could destroy the Third Reich and affect the outcome of the war when the information is revealed to the world.
When behind enemy lines the package is revealed and Tom Wilde realises just what he holds.
Meanwhile with enemies pursuing him across Germany to halt his escape his life is in danger.

This is the fourth in the Professor Thomas Wilde espionage thriller series set during WWII. I found it gripping and well researched. It‘s an exciting and action packed story where the pace doesn‘t let up. The plot is intriguing and there are plenty of twists and turns, it‘s quite a journey. I was eager to pick my Kindle up to read on. I loved the character of Tom Wilde and, therefore, look forward to reading the rest of the series.
