1 post | 1 read | 2 to read
Uuganaa is a Mongol living in Britain. When her son Billy is diagnosed with Down's Syndrome, she has to face all the taboos associated with the term 'mongol'. In this powerful memoir, Uuganaa skilfully interweaves the extraordinary story of her own childhood in Mongolia with the short life of Billy, who inspires Uuganaa to challenge prejudice.

An interesting foray into Mongolian culture, parenting a child with Down‘s syndrome, and learning to be a citizen of the world. Mongolian culture is spiritual and connected to earth and family in a way I‘ve never experienced— would love to visit someday! 🇲🇳

I initially picked up this book over the summer after I read Rough Magic, by Lara Prior-Palmer (another great read that takes place in Mongolia)
