Meet Jenna Boller, star employee at Gladstone's Shoe Store in Chicago. Standing a gawky 5'11'' at 16 years old, Jenna is the kind of girl most likely to stand out in the crowd for all the wrong reasons. But that doesn't stop Madeline Gladstone, the president of Gladstone's Shoes 176 outlets in 37 states, from hiring Jenna to drive her cross country in a last ditch effort to stop Elden Gladstone from taking over his mother's company and turning a quality business into a shop-and-schlock empire. Now Jenna Boller shoe salesperson is about to become a shoe-store spy as she joins her crusty old employer for an eye-opening adventure that will teach them both the rules of the road...and the rules of life. Joan Bauer lives in Darien, CT.

Pickpick

Jenna goes on a shoe journey from Chicago to Dallas.

It‘s a cute story, however, it‘s always interesting how authors write about Texas in its most stereotypical fashion. Weird quotes, cowboy boots and Texas two-step. I have been a Texan all my life and have yet say random weird quotes such as “that‘s manure”, wear cowboy boots or dance the two step. 🤠

Hif.saa TBH whenever I hear of Texas, that‘s what comes into my mind too 😅 (edited) 3y
freeatlast1137 @Hif.saa Lol, I understand 😊 After I posted this, I was thinking how else would you describe Texas and I realized I would probably describe Texas the same way 😅 3y

I love when I notice things ?
I happened to check on my app updates, & saw Audible created "Car Mode."
And I know why ?
WA State - home of Amazon, Audible, the two richest people in the world, & me - just enacted a super-strict distracted driving law. Like, you can get a ticket for drinking coffee now.
Managing your audiobook while driving CAN be distracting.
So, voila! Audible fixed its own problem ?
Nicely done, Audible??

Rachel.Rencher The DUI-E law makes drinking coffee a secondary offense. So, you have to already be speeding or serving to get pulled over. I visit Spokane often, so I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get busted for my Starbs. 😉 Regardless, I love seeing safety features added no matter the cause. 7y
Ashley_Nicoletto The state of Iowa also just got a distracted driving law this month. I'll have to check out this feature. 7y
Sweettartlaura @Rachel.Rencher Where are you at? 🙂 7y
Sweettartlaura @Ashley_Nicoletto It's much larger - easier to see, easier to click. It's definitely an improvement. 7y
Rachel.Rencher @Sweettartlaura I live in Boise, ID! Just recently moved down from Cd'A which is about 20 minutes east of Spokane. 😊 7y

Pickpick

A tightly plotted journey with real people and their real struggles. Joan Bauer is on form in this book, taking up her characters' pain honestly without ever letting go of hope or settling for platitudes. My new favorite YA author!
