The Spook's Secret is the third book in Joseph Delaney's terrifying Wardstone Chronicles – over 3 million copies sold worldwide! 'It's going to be a long, hard, cruel winter and there couldn't be a worse place to spend it.' As the nights draw in the Spook decides to travel to his winter house. His apprentice, Tom, hates the desolate place. There are feral witches in the cellar, menacing creatures stirring on the nearby moors and a sinister stranger threatening Tom's master. Is the Spook's past catching up with him? And what dangers will Tom face if his master's secrets are revealed?

Mehso-so

This was a bit weaker than the one before, a whole lot of nothing happening for some time and then the pace doesn't stop until the end. This is primarily about Gregory's past coming back to bite him, which was enjoyable, and Tom making some very stupid decisions, but I guess I'll give that he's 13 and I can only imagine that happening when you're 13 being tough and hard to think through.

night_shift Anyway, I think the UK title of this fits better: The Spook's Secret (why exactly did spook get changed in the titles for the US??) 4y

"Nobody knows exactly what happens after we die" the Spook said with a sigh. "If we did, there wouldn't be so many different religions all saying different things and all thinking they're right. To my mind it doesn't matter which one of them you follow. Or even if you walk alone and take your own path through life. As long as you live your life right and respect others' beliefs as your dad taught you, then you won't go far wrong."
