4 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
Born in Germany at the outbreak of WWII, Marita was incarcerated in a Nazi concentration camp as a child. In 1959, she travelled to Cuba where she met and fell in love with Fidel Castro. Yet upon fleeing to America, she was recruited by the CIA to assassinate the Fidel. Torn by love and loyalty, she couldn't bring herself to slip him the lethal pills Her life would take many more twists and turns--including having a child with ex-dictator of Venezuela, Marcos Perez Jimenez; testifying about the John F. Kennedy assassination; and becoming a party girl with close ties the New York mafia (and then a police informant) Caught up in Cold War intrigue, espionage, and conspiracy--this is Marita's incredible autobiography of a young woman who became a spy for the CIA.

If you're wondering why you've never heard of this woman, there's a reason: these stories are almost certainly made up. In addition to straining the limits of credulity, this is a poorly written book.

I'm bailing. I thiught that there was no way this book would be boring! A spy falling in love with Castro?! No way! I am bored and it doesn't help that Lorenz is not a writer and it is obvious. I've read 100 pages, a lot of stuff has happened, and I just dont care. I'll write a better review for Netgalleh but right now I just needed to vent. This needed a ghostwriter or a collaboration.

This was not the direction I was expecting this book to go. Mind you I hadn't even heard of this woman before getting this ARC so every thing has been pretty revealing. Not sure how much I care for her writing but she has an endearing personality. She feels like that aunt that always has a story to tell and you arent sure how much to believe but some of this stuff you just cant make up...

Finally starting this one today because I've got ARC's. I was really intrigued by this story and it's told by Marita herself and will be a movie soon. I'm finally able to dive in.
