Murder in the Dark
Murder in the Dark | Margaret Atwood
4 posts | 4 read | 9 to read
First published in 1983, Murder in the Dark is Margaret Atwood's seventh work of fiction or her tenth book of poetry, depending on how you slice it. These short prose forms range from fictionalized autobiography through prose-poetry, mini-romance, and miniscience fiction. A feast of comic entertainment, Murder in the Dark is Atwood at her wittiest, most thoughtful, and most provoking.

First published in 1983, the sharp satire in this collection of prose poems certainly stands the test of time. Our world is still divided into bad guys and good guys, and literature by women still doesn‘t get the same respect as literature by men. Margaret Atwood‘s poetry/flash fiction is playful and thought-provoking at the same time. #CanadianAuthor

I like to read novels in which the heroine has a costume rustling discreetly over her breasts, or discreet breasts rustling under her costume; in any case there must be a costume, some breasts, some rustling, and, over all, discretion. Discretion over all, like a fog, a miasma through which outlines of things appear only vaguely.

Atwood is a master tease with her artful language. Enjoyed these entertaining chapters, brief but poignantly crafted.

Jabberwocky So I‘m a rabid Atwood fan AND IVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS 6y
BookishMe @Jabberwocky I stumbled upon this, on the library shelf. It is a thin book and that was the biggest pull! Lol... I love it when writers pack a punch with brevity. Hope you enjoy this as well. 6y

"People like to make poison. If you don't understand this you will never understand anything."

This made me chuckle in the bus. Lol
I must read this super short story (?) to my children.
