I liked the murder mystery happening within this book, but I found every single character so annoying. The thing about having a bumbling detective is that you can really only have one and keep the story moving. The majority of the team needs to be competent or it's completely unbelievable that the mystery ever gets solved. So, overall, I would have enjoyed this story a lot more if the characters hadn't been so bad at their jobs.

Buried in here somewhere is the plot of a decent book, unfortunately it was about 200 pages too long. By the time I got to the end, I barely cared who the killer was. Rating: 2 ⭐️

An ok book. Enjoyed the ensemble CID unit hunting down the serial killer. Interaction of group was engaging, funny and not too cliche. Problem was that there are more serial killers in this town than normal people! Some eh? what? plot twists which detracted from the overall enjoyment for me. Still a pick (just) from me though.

Ready for a longer mystery...need something that rolls high for escapism. #librarianrecommended #mystery #britishmystery

Stuart MacBride's standalone crime thriller has a preposterous story that's filled with unlikely coincidence and some easily guessable twists but the relationships between the characters, the humour and the fact that MacBride makes you root for the Misfit Mob, held my attention from beginning to end and made it enjoyable.
