The Maid's War
The Maid's War | Jeff Wheeler
3 posts | 4 read | 6 to read
What if you knew a story that you could tell no one-except one person? The Duke of La Marche is being held prisoner in a tower over a friendship he never tried to hide. As confidant to the famous Maid of Donremy, the duke should have been a hero. Instead, he was locked up by his king and called a traitor. But this betrayal no longer matters to the duke. What does matter is a promise he made to a young girl-to the Maid. For the Maid had been but a girl once-a girl with a name and her own astonishing story-as he had been but a boy. He knows that one day, when he is old and frail, another girl, a poisoner, will come looking for him. And he will keep his promise-he will reveal to her the Maid's mystery so that destiny will be fulfilled. When Ankarette, the queen's poisoner, arrives in enemy territory on a quest for the Maid's magic sword, little does she realize that she's been chosen-or that the duke's story will alter the fabric of her mission-and the impending war about to tear two kingdoms apart.

Ankarette is one of my favourite characters, it was enjoyable to find out more about her and more about The Maids story 📚

DNFing this, it‘s too dull and I‘m finding myself avoiding it. I do like the glimpse of world building I got from it, so I will check out the actual series (this was a prequel) but first I‘ll read something else to cleanse my palate 😁

Reading the prequel to The Queen‘s Poisoner, and quite enjoying it. Something tells me that the main books are better 😊
Thanks to @GypsyKat for sharing her excitement over these books being on sale, which lead to me finding out that they are all available on Kindle Unlimited!
(Check a few posts back on my account to find a link to a Groupon that gets you a free two-month Kindle Unlimited subscription.)

GypsyKat So fun! I‘m excited to start them! Maybe next month! 😁 6y
Pieterbreynders I have read several of Wheeler‘s books and I enjoyed them all. I love historical books especially one‘s about the Second World War because my father was in the Dutch underground during his later teen and early young man years. I am also a hopeless romantic and want the endings to be positive. 3y
