The Great Comet
The Great Comet: The Journey of a New Musical to Broadway | Steven Suskin
3 posts | 2 read | 5 to read
A behind-the-scenes look at the making of an award-winning musical! Here is the official, fascinating, behind-the scenes journey of the new musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, from its inception, to Off-Off Broadway, to Off-Broadway, to its premiere at the Imperial Theatre on Broadway. The musical is based on a dramatic 70-page slice of Leo Tolstoy s War and Peace. Profusely illustrated, the book also includes an annotated script and a special CD with three songs from the Off-Broadway production and two all-new recordings for the Broadway production featuring Josh Groban with a 25-piece orchestra. “Pierre sees the great comet about halfway through ‘War and Peace,‘ it‘s not an ending, it‘s another beginning. His heart continues to blossom and grow, and his life transforms again and again, into wilder, and more terrible, and more beautiful, and more profound things than he could ever imagine. And the Comet family is still growing and blossoming too...continuing to stop me in my tracks with their blinding and dazzling brilliance and light.” 💜

I've never read War and Peace but I enjoyed this musical very much! What a cool production! I didn't always understand everything that was happening but the experience of it all is insane. One of the most immersive, elevated experiences I've ever had in a theatre (and I spend a lot of time at the theatre!).

Sydsavvy I'm a War and Peace junkie and have had my eye on this for a couple of years. Glad to see it's being loved! 7y

Pickpick

This was definitely a show unlike anything I've ever seen. I left with a lot of questions, but I also left with the desire to reread War & Peace, and the desire to live life fast and loud. 💌☄️ Have you seen the show?

Laalaleighh Is it worth buying the book about it? 7y
