Transoceanic Lights | S Li
4 posts | 2 read | 16 to read
Leapfrog Fiction Contest Semifinalist Asheville Award Finalist Willow Books Literature Award Finalist TRANSOCEANIC LIGHTS tells of three families who immigrate to the US from post-Mao China. The unnamed narrator's overbearing mother is plagued with regret as financial burdens and lack of trust begin to rend apart her marriage. Her only solace lies in the distant promise of better lives for her children. Yet her son spends his days longing for the comfort and familiarity of his homeland, while his two cousins, one precocious and the other rambunctious, seem to assimilate effortlessly. TRANSOCEANIC LIGHTS explores familial love and discord, the strains of displacement, and the elusive nature of the American Dream. "TRANSOCEANIC LIGHTS digs deep into the emotions of love, anger, loss, betrayal, and compassion as the families discover their place in a new country." -Gloria Mindock, ervena Barva Press Editor"

So I'm using the light from Li's book and the house from Christie's book to make my #lighthouse! #marchintoreading

25% through. I am very intrigued by this main character who does not like pizza. This is definitely way out of my comfort zone in terms of genre, writing style... But the more I read, the more intrigued I become. 🤔

Hooked_on_books Doesn't like pizza?!? Who could relate to that? 😂🍕 7y

Here are some #booksbyAsianwriters from my tbr! #readjanuary

Yellowpigeon Good luck with Romance Of the Three Kingdoms. It's long and the last fifth is nothing but minor battles. Let me know you your favorite side is? I'm partial to Cao Cao but can't argue against Zhuge Liang. 7y
EllieDottie @Yellowpigeon I will! It's length is very intimidating to me, but I've heard it's worth the read!! 7y
