Having read and enjoyed the Brunetti series, I was keen to read this memoir. It's episodic rather than linear. Fascinating insights - her childhood, teaching career, gardening and ageing.
Who knew that she lost her thesis on Mansfield Park when fleeing Iran in the 70s?

Not much about life in Venice or her writing life but a delightful read. Having tried to trace Brunetti's footsteps in Venice, loved her letter to tourists visiting the Questura.

An impulse buy at Manly Lifeline. Not an author I know of, but I'm always interested in NZ writers. Fascinating historical fiction about a catastrophic eruption in the late 1800s, including the destruction of the famed Pink and White Terraces.

Apparently it was aimed at 9 -12 year olds, but the content could be distressing (searching for survivors and bodies). Sobering read in the light of the 2019 Whakaari eruption.
