To survive this, to get what she wants, she must be a thief, a cleaner, a navigator, a fighter, a cook, a whore; she must be a sufferer of blisters and loneliness and pain, she must be a hard worker, she must be tough and determined and unbreakable, she must not be an idiot, and now she must be humble.

On the third night, we pull in to rest at Reading, the horses muddy and weary, and all of us battered half to death. A blotchy and rather cross-looking king creaks in the wind overhead. Another King's Head. How many heads can one king have, I wonder to Molly, who rolls her eyes as if I have said something silly.

This was a fun fan fiction about Lady Macbeth. Wonderful imaging what her life was like leading up to the beginning of the play. Perfect to get me out of a reading slump. 3 🌟

This book was okay. There wasn‘t near as much sex in this one. One thing that bothered me was Lord Vere‘s “doltishness”. It was way over the top. I think he could have gotten away with his subterfuge with not so much idiocy. #SeriesLove2024 @Andrew65 @TheSpineView

Elissande Edgerton is a desperate woman, a virtual prisoner in the home of her tyrannical uncle. Only through marriage can she claim the freedom she craves. Lord Vere is s secret agent for the government, he‘s tracked down some of the most devious criminals in London, all the while maintaining his cover as one of Society‘s most harmless—and idiotic—bachelors. But nothing can prepare him for the scandal of being ensnared by Elissande.

Another book from my TBR list and I for one am happy to check this off.

I wish there was more of Sebastian moments. I feel that really could have helped his character's arc from rake to husband of convenience to caring and loving at the end because while I enjoyed the book, I just didn't really fall for it but I had moments were maybe with a little more something, I could have.

Volume 7 seems to be missing from the Litsy database! Hopefully, it will be added soon (as requested).

Am I worried the “golden age” of these journals has passed? Admittedly, yes. Emma has begun to make choices about her life (as we all need to); it means that other possible paths are closing. This one feels even *more* bittersweet to me than the others! But I trust that Brower will handle the plot (aka Emma‘s life) deftly. She‘s in good hands.

WELL. The end of this reading month certainly took a turn…over the Atlantic Ocean and through the meandering, idyllic streets of St. Crispian‘s.

I‘ve been averaging about 8 books per month but at the tail end of March, I picked up first volume of Emma M. Lion‘s Unselected Journals — and then promptly read 5 more (and am currently halfway into the 7th volume). I suppose that puts me at 13 books this month. Thanks for the boost, Beth Brower!
