As much as this small little comic was relatable and delightful, as an admirer of the written word, I couldn‘t help but feel disappointed. Disappointment may be too harsh a word, but I found I wasn‘t as emotionally attached as I thought I would be after having read Book Love.

rretzler I‘ve been debating whether I want to purchase or not. Perhaps I‘ll check the library! 3y

I apologize for being so distant on Litsy. I‘m reaching my one month mark at my new job and my brain has been mush, all I‘ve been capable of is binge watching Shameless and sleeping. My books are threatening to leave if they are not paid attention to soon.

Schnoebs Preach!!!!! I‘ve been swamped with grad school and work. I feel so bad not being as present on Litsy as I would like to be 4y
quirkthenerd @Schnoebs It was stressing me out to be honest! I get through a page or two and have to put it down because my head hurts 😅 4y
Schnoebs My thing is I have a book club format class and I‘ve been freaking out about getting enough pages read in time for the deadline that I haven‘t had the energy to pick up anything else. It sucks because my casual books are the only thing that keeps me sane in school and I haven‘t been able to get to them 🙈 4y

A little late on this one, but thank you @Trashcanman for the tag.
Here goes! #TwentyThingsAboutMe

Trashcanman I'm addicted to coffee too. You have bpd 1 or 2? I have bi polar 2. I want to learn how to use a motorcycle but I'm a wimp 4y
Trashcanman Are you triplets identical? 4y
BeansPage Nice pic of films! You and I should talk more often 😉 I am a giant horror nerd 😁 4y

quirkthenerd @Trashcanman BPD in my case meaning Borderline Personality Disorder. Being a passenger on a motorcycle is way more thrilling for me, less anxiety. 4y
quirkthenerd @Trashcanman And no, we are not identical, thank goodness, couldn‘t imagine looking exactly the same as another human. 😋 4y
quirkthenerd @TheReadingMermaid GIRL YES! I feel bad for my boyfriend because it‘s the only genre I like watching. Poor guy gets scared. 😝 4y
BeansPage You suffer from BPD too? Holy crap girl! We are like soul sistas! 🤜🏻🤛🏻 and my husband has the same way he's a total scaredy-cat. I love being scared though. I love the adrenaline rush. Unfortunately I've spent most of my life watching scary movie is so I'm a bit jaded now. It takes a lot to scare me. 😜 4y
quirkthenerd @TheReadingMermaid You have BPD as well? I was hesitant to add it to my list but I was hoping I could finally meet others who understand the illness. It‘s a fairly new diagnosis for me. 4y
quirkthenerd @TheReadingMermaid I completely understand, finding a good horror movie is quite the task, but one I gladly accept. 😁 4y
BeansPage It's a fairly recent diagnosis for myself as well. I was only diagnosed with it at the end of last year. I am currently learning all I can about the disorder and intern trying to learn more about myself. I love meeting other people who have been diagnosed with that as well because I know they feel the pain of having to fight with yourself every single day. 4y
quirkthenerd @TheReadingMermaid This has truly put the biggest smile on my face. I mean, I would never wish this upon anyone but it‘s comforting to meet another person who understands completely. I have been going through a similar process for about a year now, trying to gather as much information to enable myself to heal and grow. 4y
BeansPage Anytime you want to talk I'm here. Please feel free to shoot me an e-mail so that I can email you back. I would love to chat more with you about this. TamaraTheReadingMermaid@yahoo.com 4y

quirkthenerd @Trashcanman Thank you! So far I‘m enjoying the atmosphere and the people are very welcoming, the job itself is just a lot to learn. Once things calm down in my life I‘ll be more active on Litsy again. 4y
Trashcanman @quirkthenerd Understood, I start a new job on Monday after a decade years with my current one. You got this. 4y

I know all too well of the inexplicable acts that women have faced at the hands of men. I was attracted to the idea of reading poetry written by a woman who speaks her truth so unashamedly. With that being said, I was left disheartened by the amount of rage that was directed at men, as if all men are guilty based on the fact that they are men. Eradicating all men seemed to be Lovelace‘s solution and I didn‘t find that empowering.

Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare Your tattoos are intriguing. Is it impolite to ask their significance? 4y
quirkthenerd @Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare Thank you 🙂 Definitely not impolite! Ask away! To be honest, they do not have much significance at all. The one design on my thumb is a Viking symbol that signifies ‘create your own reality‘. I‘m a firm believer in the idea that tattoos do not require profound significance to be placed on your body. Tattoos, personally, help me feel comfortable in my own skin. 4y

I‘ve definitely flip-flopped on my opinion concerning the pace of this series, which, if you have read Outcast, is a slow burn. Melissa Broder‘s collection of essays display a raw, vulnerability that is all too relatable, we are just not brave enough to share it quite so openly as this author. Strayed writes “Quotes don't speak to one particular truth but rather to universal truths". Every person can read the words and find meaning within their own lives. I understand that this small accumulation of quotes is a quick read, however, I decided to read one single passage a day. I felt it held more power. Some were simple while others weighty, but they always seemed to be something I needed to hear, a harsh truth I needed to learn.

This is an extremely personal post but I feel it‘s important. I have OCD tendencies, and sadly they have developed very strongly towards reading. I have always been intimidated by how quickly others read, and embarrassed by my process. Unfortunately, my brain feels the need to look up the definition to each word once stumped on it, regardless of its simplicity. At least my vocabulary is growing, however so is my TBR pile. #OpeningUp

Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare I'm constantly amazed how quickly some people can read. But then I figure maybe racing through books mean you don't get the full experience. Like one person could walk through an art gallery, taking their time with each picture and spend a day there, and someone else could run through all the rooms and be back outside in 30 minutes. I know which I'd rather do 4y
quirkthenerd @Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare I have to constantly remind myself of that. It‘s frustrating and, at many times, I have given up on reading because of it. Thank you for your comment, it‘s exactly what I try explaining to others when they realize my process and think it‘s odd. 4y
Marilyncjackson I do that too. It‘s not weird it‘s not bad it‘s you. It doesn‘t matter how you read, how fast you read, or even what you as long as you enjoy it. ❤️ 4y

quirkthenerd @Marilyncjackson Thank you so much ❤️ It really makes me appreciate books to a greater degree once I‘ve completed them, especially when it can take some time just to get through a single page 😅 4y
Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare I much prefer reading paper books, but I've found one big plus with Kindle and Overdrive is you can look up the definition of words you're unfamiliar with really easily. Remember that looking up the meaning of words is the result of having a curious mind that wants to learn, and that's a thing to be proud of and celebrated 4y
quirkthenerd @Ye_Mighty_Andy_Spare I have honestly been giving it a lot of thought as well once I realized that you could simply tap the word and get the definition, so much easier than my current situation. Thank you for that comment at the end, I agree wholeheartedly with that statement. 4y

quirkthenerd @JenIsAlwaysReading Thank you so much ☺️ Honestly, it was something I was always ashamed of, but the kindness and support I‘m receiving here on Litsy encourages me so much! 4y
Awk_Word_Smith As someone who has dyslexia—which my form manifests itself when reading aloud and also in that I skip words sometimes whole phrases—I can sympathize with you. To this day at 41 years old, reading aloud is anxiety inducing. We always look for the silver lining in our crosses to bear, so it‘s great that your silver lining is a heightened vocabulary. 😃 (edited) 4y
quirkthenerd @Awk_Word_Smith It‘s amazing to hear the struggle others face and that it isn‘t just “smooth sailing” through these books for everyone. Thank you so much for sharing. And yes, my vocabulary is getting quite good ☺️ 4y
Trashcanman It's amazing that you shared this. It's not easy to do. I know what you mean. Some people here read incredible amounts. Me not so much. 4y
quirkthenerd @Trashcanman @Trashcanman Thank you, I find being very open and transparent has been helpful for my recovery. I‘ll sit down and read for hours, but that doesn‘t mean I‘ve progressed much in a book. Sometimes it gets so frustrating that I have to stop altogether. 4y
Trashcanman @quirkthenerd it has been for me as well. But I'm going to stop. What once was cathartic is now painful. 4y
quirkthenerd @Trashcanman Stop reading altogether? 4y
Trashcanman @quirkthenerd oh no I'm sorry, being so open about my uh, shortcomings. 4y
quirkthenerd @Trashcanman Understandable, you do what helps you cope. Shortcoming isn‘t the term I‘d use for it; in my opinion, it‘s not a defect of your character but rather an illness. You are not your illness 4y
