If Gilmore Girls and One Day at a Time had a baby it would be this book. It was so lovely and sweet and just caring story about family, history and culture.

A beautiful middle grade novel about the struggles of finding yourself, menstruation, and re-connection with lost/erased culture.

A beautiful book about identity and privilege written with heart. The last quarter had me zooming through the pages - my heart beating, worried for all the characters - to its beautiful conclusion.

I was not ready for the deep sadness of this novel. Beautifully detailed, well crafted, and just filled with those quiet moments you know are going to mess you up later.

Tons of fun and I love Dom! Great pop/vibrant art as well that matches the vibrant nature of the story. Now I need to wait for volume two.

Addicting and made me want to stay up all night to read. You can feel how much work and love went into this book. Though I‘m so annoyed I‘ll have to wait a year or more for book 2!

Cute and fun volume that felt a bit sedated. But I think this series is just getting going, so followup volumes will hopefully be a bit stronger.

Had the pleasure of reading this beautifully written novel this week. Miss Wallace has such a way with words and I loved the rich character history that she created for the Lovegood family and the way she handled the topics of death, depression, and loss.

What are you reading for the Holiday weekend?

Sktrue3 I just finished Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi. I started Solo by Kwame Alexander. 2y

Sktrue3 I really enjoyed Whichwood. It felt like a fairytale. I'm only a few pages into Solo, and it is captivating. 2y

Is it weird to say that a character's wickedness warmed my heart? Because it did. This book is such a fun start to a series that I have a feeling will be wickedly delightful in many ways. Truly looking forward to Book 2 to see where Xifeng will take us next.

Completely drawn in by the killer voices in this book and quickly attached myself to Alex. I'm still not sure how I feel about the ending but I'm guessing since I'm crying a bit at the moment that this book totally got me.

Read this over the snowy weekend and the ending had me sobbing. It was such a lovely unpacking of grief, loss, and love. LaCour did a stellar job of using the quiet moments to really dive into the complicated emotions around love and loss. Possibly my favorite of her books now.

I loved DiCamillo's Tale of Despereaux and was excited to read this one and though the language is beautiful as usual none of the characters caught my attention or my heart. I simply did not care what happened to them. If it hadn't been a quick read I would have DNFed it.

(It took so many treats to get them to do this) I go back and forth between giving this book a So-So or Pick. I thought a lot of it was pretty slow but there were a few stories I really liked (like when she goes into her relationships and friendships) which in the end make it an overall fun read.

Had to really push through this volume. Dialogue was so clunky and while I get silly plots this felt very convenient? Not sure if that's the right word. Felt like a throwback to pulpy over-the-top plots but something about it simply wasn't compelling.

The Handmaid's Tale | Margaret Atwood

I would like to believe this is a story I'm telling. I need to believe it. Those who can believe that such stories are only stories have a better chance. If it's a story I'm telling, then I have control over the ending. Then there will be an ending, to the story, and real life will come after it. I can pick up where I left off. It isn't a story I'm telling.

I liked the book overall though I thought it slogged a bit in the second half, like it wasn't sure what it wanted to do with itself. I didn't hate the non-ending but i did think it was a missed opportunity - felt a bit like a wrong note left dangling in the air.
