Here‘s how I‘m doing on the #realmofelderlings buddy read since I haven‘t talked about it in a while. I‘m behind on this buddy read too. I‘ve only read the prologue of this book. I haven‘t had time to read this book because I have too many books in progress. It‘s okay if I take my time with these books though because this is a 16 book series and all of the books are over 500 pages so it‘ll probably take 2 years to finish reading these books.

Pickpick

I fear I don‘t have the words to describe how I feel about this trilogy. I was immersed in this world for the last few weeks as I devoured all 3 books every chance I got. The characters are so well written, the magic intriguing and unique, the setting beautifully described. I felt so much for these characters, and had my heart broken for their sake countless times. There were also loving, tender moments and suspenseful battle scenes. Continued ⬇️

jen_the_scribe There were also moments that had me actually smiling or even laughing out loud while my husband looked at me like I‘m crazy. Such a journey Robin Hobb took me on, and these are the kinds of epic fantasies that I live for. I will say, though, the ending was bittersweet for lack of a better word. I wanted more for the MC. But everything felt like it unfolded as it was meant to for each character. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2w
Luke-XVX I always thought the ending seemed rushed and didn‘t wrap up 100% satisfying. I wonder if, at that stage, she knew if she‘d expand more into that world or not (edited) 2w
jen_the_scribe @Luke-XVX I wondered about that as well. I did find the final confrontation a bit underwhelming. 2w
Luke-XVX It‘s not a major issue as I‘m still a huge fan and I‘m still way off from completing the whole saga haha 2w
jen_the_scribe @Luke-XVX Yes! I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I have the next trilogy in my wish list, just going to focus on the books in my TBR pile before diving back in lol 2w

“Other men might dream of high honors or riches or deeds of valor sung by minstrels. I wanted to come to a small cot as light faded, to sit in a chair by a fire, my back aching from work, my hands rough with toil, and hold a little girl in my lap while a woman who loved me told me of her day. Of all the things I had ever had to give up simply by virtue of the blood I carried, that was the dearest.”

“I could hear the faint sounds of the merrymaking. Closer to hand were the now-unfamiliar creakings and settling of a building, the sounds of folk moving in other rooms of the inn. They made me nervous, as the wind through the branches of a forest, or the gurgling of the river close by my sleeping spot, had not. I feared my own kind more than anything the natural world could ever threaten me with.”

Book 2 in this trilogy only made me cry once (versus 3 times with book 1 😭). This series already has me in a chokehold. I felt myself completely immersed in this world and so worried for the characters. I really hate the antagonist and I can‘t wait to see the MC go head to head with him. It ended on a cliffhanger, so off to start book 3!
