This collection is stylistically similar to #PedroParamo. The stories are all set in rural Mexico, an area isolated, hot, and hostile, during a time of unrest and violence (c. 1920s), and the characters are poor. arubabookwoman Incomplete to me and I am often puzzled by them. These stories combine the details of the brutality of life with a certain mysticism, and Rulfo sometimes seems to have gone out of the way to be puzzling. Still, I recommend this, but I recommend his novel #PedroParamo more. 6y
