Although I still have some reading to do this week, I think I‘ve finished all I‘m going to fit in for #ReadingTheAmericas2023. I completed at least 15 books and experienced more countries through them. 7 of these books are also on the #1001books list. This challenge was a great way to continue to broaden my reading, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This was the first Nancy Drew book I have read in a number of decades. Read it for #CostaRica for #ReadingTheAmericas2023 @BarbaraBB @Librarybelle

An enjoyable light mystery set in the jungles of Costa Rica where something mysterious is going on. Cue Nancy and her friends to investigate and save the day. Although not going to run out and read others in the series.

14th book read in November #Rushathon @DieAReader @Ghabi4Roses

DieAReader 🥳🥳🥳 5mo
Librarybelle I didn‘t know she went to Costa Rica! That‘s awesome! 5mo

Andrew65 @Librarybelle Amazing what you find out with a bit of research. I definitely wasn‘t aware. 5mo
TheSpineView Fantastic! 5mo
GHABI4ROSES I WAS JUST ASKING ABOUT THESE?! Should I go for it? Nancy? Hardy Boys? I have the first few of both. I know that Hardy Boys were first. 5mo
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES They are quick, light, fun reads based on these ones. Possibly a couple of hours reading for this book. Good for break from other reading I would impatient but I think I‘d want to intersperse them. A LOT of Nancy Drew books 😳 As a child I read more Hardy Boys than Nancy Drew. If you‘ve got them I‘d read them. 5mo
GHABI4ROSES That is exactly how I needed to see it: I have them. I will read them. Especially cus I am a chunkster person! Good interludes😘 5mo
Andrew65 @GHABI4ROSES I need to get to my Chunksters more! A goal for 2023, singularly failed on that this year. 5mo

Mehso-so

Barely avoiding a disappointed Pan, this missed the mark for me. A few glorious turns of phrase cannot save this from being a sprawling mess. The plot is confused - heck, it's having a full-on identity crisis! The magical realism is clunky, the metaphors aren't as profound as they think they are & the characters are unlikeable (not in a good way!) Ending is depressing, very little resolution ... of anything really. Worst of all - it bored me!!!

This book represents #CostaRica for the #ReadingTheAmericas2023 reading challenge. I truly enjoyed this adventure/mystery read. Plenty of action and the author has crafted Poppy into a character you'll want to keep reading. #bookspin @librarybelle @BarbaraBB @thearomaofbooks

I enjoyed reading about Levison Wood walking across Central America. I recognized many places from when I traveled those countries myself in the 90s (by bus, not walking 😉). The book is more about the traveling than the visited places though.

Ticking off many prompts for #ReadingTheAmericas23: #Mexico #Belize #Guatemala #Honduras #CostaRica #Panama #Colombia 🇲🇽 🇧🇿 🇬🇹 🇭🇳 🇨🇷 🇵🇦 🇨🇴

Finally made some gallo pinto, as mentioned in this book's first story 😁
I used the recipe in https://costa-rica-guide.com/travel/food/gallo-pinto-recipe-costa-rica/ although unfortunately, I had to substitute salsa Lizano for Worcester sauce

While I admired Teddy Roosevelt after reading The River of Doubt, I‘m pretty ticked off with him for his aggression in Central America. Of course the Panama Canal is vital for many reasons, not least of which its value to Panama, but to take the land by force and Roosevelt‘s aggressive Corollary to the Monroe Doctrine are reprehensible. #readingtheAmericas #Belize

I have to confess, I‘m only a few pages into JP, but it‘s already so good. I‘ve actually read it before, but it was not long after the movie came out when I was 10 years old, so I don‘t remember much, and probably didn‘t really understand it.

I made Salsa Lizano for #FoodAndLit #CostaRica, & put it on a ribeye (that I got WAY on sale 😉). It was really good, but I wish my pic was better. That steak looks like it was mauled by a velociraptor.

Maggie4483 Another day-late post. I‘m excited to start China for September! 8mo

I really wanted to love this book about the abuse of workers on banana plantations in #CostaRica and the subsequent impacts through the years, but it‘s just not good. It‘s hard to follow and has too many characters that blend together and are indistinct. The author interview on the Poured Over podcast is so much better than the book. Disappointing.

ErikasMindfulShelf Disappointing to hear. This book I was high up on my tbr. Now I‘m not so sure. 8mo
Librarybelle That‘s a shame! 8mo
Hooked_on_books @ErikasMindfulShelf There are reviewers in other places who love it, so hopefully if you give it a go it‘ll work better for you than me! 8mo
