Goat Mountain
Goat Mountain | David Vann
3 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
A shocking, suspenseful and daring new novel from one of the greatest American writers at work today, whose previous books include Caribou Island, Dirt and Legend of a Suicide. In David Vanns searing novel Goat Mountain, an eleven-year-old boy is eager to make his first kill at his familys annual deer hunt. But all is not as it should be. His father discovers a poacher on the land, a 640-acre ranch in Northern California, and shows him to the boy through the scope of his rifle. With this simple gesture, tragedy erupts, shattering lives irrevocably. Set over the course of one hot and hellish weekend, Goat Mountain is the story of a family struggling to contend with a terrible crime and its repercussions. David Vann creates a haunting and provocative novel that explores our most primal urges and beliefs, the bonds of blood and religion that define and secure us, and the consequences of our actions what we owe for what weve done.

@Crazeedi #50kcelebration My favorite childhood summer memory is a camping trip my dad took me and my sister on, Mom stayed home. We hoped in the pick up truck and explored the west. when we were driving in the mts one day, we had to stop with hundreds of other cars cause there were goats in a tunnel and the rangers said we had to wait until they left. That took 6 hours! But it was great 6 hrs cause we got to commune with nature and 👎

It was our own goat watching party. There was no cell phones or tablets. We just hung out and enjoyed nature and the company of strangers. 5y
TEArificbooks We returned a couple of weeks later covered in ticks and dirt. But we saw Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower, Chimney Rock and crossed 6 states. 5y
