Never speak of that summer."Propulsive, escapist, and sharp." --Emily Layden, author of Once More from the Top On a beautiful summer's night twenty years ago, troubled seventeen-year-old Tamara Drayton was found floating face-down in the pool of her family's idyllic mansion in the south of France, leaving her twin brother, golden-boy Blake, to pick up the pieces of their shattered family. Also left behind was their sister Nina who, at six years old, became the youngest person ever to testify in a French murder trial. Because she's the only one who saw what happened--who watched as her babysitter, Josie Jackson, pushed Tamara under the water, and held her there until she stopped breathing. Didn't she? Twenty years later, Nina's memories have faded, leaving her with no idea of what really transpired that night. When a new true crime documentary about her sister's murder is announced, Nina thinks this might be her chance to finally find out. But the truth always comes at a cost. Who will pay the price? Set over two unforgettable summers two decades apart, High Season is a dark, tense exploration of the nature of memory, the enduring power of truth, and all the gray areas in between.

Happy Publication Day! I really think Bishop‘s second novel is even better than her first! With multiple perspectives, timelines & a multimedia slant, this makes for a summer thriller that handles big issues, a murder & family drama— as well as the deeper bonds of friendship & family— making it impossible to put down! I loved it! The characters all come to life— as well as the beautiful Cote de Azur setting! A terrific summer read for sure!

3.5 ⭐️

High Season is a book that deals with a death that occurred 20 years ago. Nina Drayton's sister, Tam, was killed. Nina, at age 6, was the star witness. She said she saw Josie Jackson, her babysitter, kill her. Don't worry, I'm not spoiling anything 😊 The reader gets this info in the first chapter. The question you have to ask yourself is: Is a child 6 years old a good witness?

The book is divided into 4 parts and flips back and ⬇️

MonicaLoves2Read forth between the present and 20 years ago. I thought the first 2 parts were really good. The book moved at a good pace, but by the third part, it started to slow down. When I got to the fourth part, to me, the book was dragging. I personally think Bishop could have closed the book sooner, but that's just my opinion. Will I read more by her? Most likely.

The book publishes August 12, 2025. It's a good book, just drags a bit. If it sounds good to you, pick it up on the 12th.

Thanks to Goodreads, St. Martin's Press and Bishop for the book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
