On Wanting to Change

Adam Phillips is a British psychoanalyst I've been meaning to read for awhile. The ideal moment cropped up, because what's better to ring in the new year than a book about change? Except psychoanalysis, that maddening, enthralling, bewitching field of study, is here to scramble your brain & upend all of your accepted beliefs & ideas about change being a necessarily good or productive thing. I especially loved the bits on DW Winnicott & Socrates.

batsy The book also has an epigraph by the poet Denise Levertov, "Let's go—much as that dog goes, intently haphazard". Those lines just lodged in my mind & lead me to look up the wonderful poem https://3quarksdaily.com/3quarksdaily/2011/03/saturday-poem-1-73.html : "There's nothing the dog disdains on his way, nevertheless he keeps moving". 1y

Bibliomania Sounds really interesting... but maybe a bit much for my brain right now! Adding it to my list for another time though :)
