Bad Medicine: Doctors Doing Harm Since Hippocrates | David Wootton
2 posts | 1 read | 1 to read
In this controversial new account of the history of medicine, David Wootton argues that, from the fifth century BC until the 1930s, doctors actually did more harm than good, and asks just how much harm they still do today.

Has someone actually finished it? It‘s interesting but I lost interest from a certain point on

Very cool book about the history of medicine. Instead of just listing major discoveries that contributed to medicine as we know it today, Wootton focuses on the long gaps between between scientific discoveries and their eventual implementation in medicine. It's a cultural and institutional account of why it took so long for medicine to do more good than harm. Easy to read and entertaining.
