Shattered Pillars
Shattered Pillars | Elizabeth Bear
2 posts | 3 read | 4 to read
"Shattered Pillars" is the second book of Bear's The Eternal Sky trilogy and the sequel to "Range of Ghosts." Set in a world drawn from our own great Asian Steppes, this saga of magic, politics, and war sets Re-Temur, the exiled heir to the great Khagan and his friend Sarmarkar, a Wizard of Tsarepheth, against dark forces determined to conquer all the great Empires along the Celedon Road.Elizabeth Bear is an astonishing writer, whose prose draws you into strange and wonderful worlds, and makes you care deeply about the people and the stories she tells. The world of The Eternal Sky is broadly and deeply created.

Well book 2 is done and I‘m still not impressed with this series. Once again Bear has over described so much of everything that the plot falls flat and way to hidden amongst so many paragraphs of unnecessary descriptions of the world. Also I really really dislike Samakar and her “relationship” with Temur. At this point I am reading it cuz I want to know what happens to Edene (and the twin thing with Sadaat and Sharuzh is confusing as fudge)

Well I decided to give book 2 a shot in this trilogy even though I was super disappointed with book 1, but I waited for so many weeks for these from my library that I feel I have to read them. So hopefully this one will be less descriptive and more plot (I better not read about naked breasts of a woman breaking a mad mans war rage again that was ridiculous)
