Well! The publisher‘s website says for 9-12 years, but as someone a tad older, I learnt loads. It treats the reader as an intelligent human being, never talking down to them, even when explaining tricky concepts, & is relatively gimmick-free (he does shrink to virus size to see inside the body, but purely for research purposes!)
And did you know that viruses can cause the streaks on tulip petals?
