What Does Consent Really Mean?
What Does Consent Really Mean? | Pete Wallis, Joseph Wilkins, Thalia Wallis
3 posts | 8 read | 4 to read
"Consent is not the absence of 'NO', it is an enthusiastic YES!!" While seemingly straightforward, Tia and Bryony hadn't considered this subject too seriously until it comes up in conversation with their friends and they realise just how important it is. Following the sexual assault of a classmate, a group of teenage girls find themselves discussing the term consent, what it actually means for them in their current relationships, and how they act and make decisions with peer influence. Joined by their male friends who offer another perspective, this rich graphic novel uncovers the need for more informed conversations with young people around consent and healthy relationships. Accompanying the graphics are sexual health resources for students and teachers, which make this a perfect tool for broaching the subject with teens.

Different book than tagged but same author. I happened to see this one at the library and thought it would be interesting to check out. It's a young person's primer on consent in comic form (comic like with panels, not comic with humor). The two points that hit are consent = communication and that both girls and boys are dealing with pressures to move further/faster than they'd like. Very well done, seems super young but accessible for that.

everlocalwest That's one from each of my stacks so I guess it's time for bed now. #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon 6y

We had an issue in our school where a boy did not believe women pubic hair because he had never seen any porn. It‘s really worrisome that these teenagers have access to porn videos and GIFs without really understanding how fake that genre can be.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Yes it is, because we‘ve pulled out most means of honest discussion and education, that means the only thing left is what they can learn themselves online... which is really scary. 6y
Eggs Porn addiction results in not being able to have intimacy with a real human being I've heard; especially for teens 6y

This short graphic novel is a great introduction to what consent is and isn't. It's straight forward &honest, perfect for young teens (think Jr. High), but really everyone could use a refresher on this topic.

There are some good discussion questions at the back of the book as well that can lead to some much needed conversations.
