By night, teenager Yoshimori Sumimura is a "kekkaishi"--a demon-hunter who specializes in creating magical barriers around his prey. By day, Yoshimori's got other demons to battle: an addiction to sweets and a seriously crotchety grandfather! Yoshimori's pretty neighbor and childhood friend, Tokine Yukimura, is also a kekkaishi, but their families are feuding over who is the true practitioner of the art. Yoshimori's absentee mother, Sumiko, makes an unexpected appearance at Karasumori--but not for a tearful family reunion. Sumiko leads Yoshimori and Tokine through a labyrinth to find and remove the mystical site's mysterious guardian... What does Sumiko know of the circumstances surrounding Tokine's father's death? Can she be trusted? Can Karasumori's guardian be trusted...? And what fate awaits Karasumori if its guardian leaves?!
