I genuinely enjoyed reading this picture book! This book would be well utilized in classrooms across elementary aged children in order to spark conversations about individuality. Discussing that everyone is made differently and there are always benefits to what makes you, you. It focuses on the importance of self-esteem as well as self-respect.

This illustrations in this story are colored using watercolors. Watercolors provide very low levels of intensity yet high levels of value and transparency. The images in the story also provide a great sense of perspective from the lifestyle of little Mimi. The size of various components in the illustrations are depicted as larger than life, as this is the way in which Mimi views them in correlation with her size.

Review:
This book uses size to portray how small the main character is. In relation to her peers, children will easily see the size difference between them. This book is also very relatable because it is about a child going to school and playing. The colors are accurate, the proportions are accurate, and the language used is understandable for children.

“I Am Small“ is about a young girl who is unhappy about how small she is compared to those around her. She complains about everything she cannot do or see even when her peers try to encourage her with positives about being smaller. Until one day, she meets her newborn sibling and is no longer sad about being small. I would use this book to teach readers about the importance of embrace and love themselves, along with all of their great qualities.

“I Am Small“ by Qin Leng is a picture book that uses cohesive composition to display elements of design, which portray the main message of the story. For example, the lines used are very thin and dainty, the colors used are somewhat faded and pastel, and the perspectives of the main character within the pictures (the chalkboard takes up the entire page while the main character is at the very bottom) all help to portray the idea of feeling small.

I would use I Am Small in my classroom at the beginning of the year. Every student has an insecurity of some sort and this book can help students become confident, and more understanding of themselves and their peers.

I Am Small is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Qin Leng in 2018. This book is about a girl named Mimi who is smaller than everyone else. The art in this story allows students to see how Mimi's size makes her feel like throughout the day. In straight lines, Mimi is always the shortest. The illustrator also used the same bright colors throughout the whole story to make Mimi's height the main thing students eyes may be drawn to.

3⭐️ Mimi is the smallest person in her class, and in her life. It is annoying how many things she can not do because of her size. Even when her friends point out the great things about being small she thinks that they just don‘t get it. Until she finds something smaller than herself. My main problem with this book is the ending. Dad has a surprise for Mimi. But the surprise I am sure they would have told her about months ago.
