"Believe in the unexpected" with this hilarious, heartwarming, and much-anticipated sequel to the New York Times bestseller The Fourteenth Goldfish! Ellie's grandpa Melvin is a world-renowned scientist . . . in the body of a fourteen-year-old boy. His feet stink, and he eats everything in the refrigerator--and Ellie is so happy to have him around. Grandpa may not exactly fit in at middle school, but he certainly keeps things interesting. When he and Ellie team up for the county science fair, no one realizes just how groundbreaking their experiment will be. The formula for eternal youth may be within their reach! And when Ellie's cat, Jonas Salk, gets sick, the stakes become even higher. But is the key to eternal life really the key to happiness? Sometimes even the most careful experiments yield unexpected--and wonderful--results.

Quiet evening reading at home while matzo ball soup cooks on the stovetop! With the 2nd quarter wrapping up, with it looking like another straight A report card, the kid deserves a night without homework or studying!

What we‘re reading:

Hubby: Birdbox
Maya: tagged book
Me: Phantom by Jo Nesbø

cathysaid Such a delightful, cozy pic. 5y

My next #homeschoolbookclub meeting is still three weeks away, but most of my kids have told me they‘ve already finished The Fourteenth Goldfish. Luckily the sequel just came out, and I figured I‘d better read it too. This is a pretty enjoyable follow up, although I felt the historical scientists, friendship elements, and tidy endings were laid on a bit too thick for me this time. Definitely read the other first. #kidlit #middlegrade

5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ full review LT and GR
This was the perfect sequel. Melvin disappeared for a year. He had to get used to being a teenager again, since the age 77 was so a few weeks ago. But now he is back in Ellies and her mother‘s life. Ellie convinces Melvin they should team up for the Science fair. He does have two PhDs after all.
This book is full of interesting science phenomenon, but it is the story of the family that makes it a stand out!

I think I enjoyed this one more than the first book! It delves into Ellie's friendships even more, and perfectly captures those awkward moments that sometime plague them. Melvin was much more tolerable in this and we get to see a lot more of his softer side. This is such a cute and science friendly series.

Just got this one in the mail!
The Third Mushroom is the sequel to The Fourteenth Goldfish and a Middle Grade book about a young girl and her grandpa head into a science fair.
This releases on September 4th!

This seems really cute! I haven't read the first book, so I'll be tackling that sometime soon.

LibrarianRyan Listen to it on audio book if you can. Just over 3 hours long and sooooo adorable. I have been awaiting the one you hold in your hand. 6y
InLibrisVeritas @LibrarianRyan I'm so glad to hear that! I'll see if my library has an audio and go for it! 6y
Aseleener I read The Fourteenth Goldfish to my daughters just a few months ago. We liked it. I didn't know there was a sequel. Thanks for sharing. 6y
