This masterful text on the US imperial project's origins and it's subsequent iterations is a must-read for those interested in the history of the US empire. The book shows both the continuities and innovations in how US imperialism is articulated and sold to the public. Williams' insightful book was published in 1980 but anticipates the reorientation of the US imperial project to the enemy within- so crucial in the post 9/11 US imperialism.
