Mehso-so

Tamsin Grey‘s debut novel is a coming-of-age story framed around a mystery but while there and times when the boys and their dialogue are pitch perfect and Grey captures the selfish preoccupation of the adults around them, Lucy comes across as an awful person (mental illness notwithstanding), Grey sometimes makes Jonah precocious for his years and the story is saddled with a soap opera finish that I didn‘t believe in.

I wanted to like this as it‘s her first novel. However the characters did get me in at the beginning then it seemed to drag for me. So I skip read to find out what happened. Really not my sort of book I guess. Too many books for me to have finished this properly as I was not enjoying it. Not my cup of tea! @MrsMalaprop

Pickpick

I snuck a few minutes in the car before work yesterday morning to finish off this sweet sad story. It was heartbreaking and funny and sweet all the way through. I just wanted to scoop up Jonah and Raff and take care of them! Really great writing.

I‘m working on this but also slightly distracted by bing watching Fear the walking dead.... it‘s definitely an intriguing story so far, Jonah and Raff‘s mum isn‘t there one morning when they wake up, but the started 5 years after the ‘current‘ events. I‘m really interested to see where it goes....
