Please – I need some support … I mean, I _know_ I‘m a mood reader – but I am so disappointed. By me, my expectations, by this book, by its writing style.

Anybody out there who ever felt too stupid, too un-educated for a book❓ I mean, I _should_ be able to get through. It‘s just … I don‘t want to because it‘s all so distant and I can‘t relate. But at the same time I feel like I didn‘t _try_ enough. Am I facile❓ Shallow❓ Too much easy-going❓

Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling I‘ve felt that way before so you are not alone. There are times when you find an author who strives to makes their writing as opaque as possible, perhaps in attempt to create a feeling if discord in their readers. You always offer such insightful comments, reflections, and analyses in your posts. Maybe it‘s the writer, not you? 💗 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me 🤗 I am so thankful for your warm words. ❤️ Thank you. 🙇🏽‍♀️ Yes, maybe you‘re right. Maybe it‘s the author/writing style, not me. Even if that means it‘s me anyway, because at the moment I seem to always be inclined to think it‘s always me – and never the others. 🙄🤷🏽‍♀️ 5y
Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling Again, I know that feeling. However, I stick to my belief it‘s the author because you are simply amazing. 100% author, 0% you👍🏻 For life in general, 90% world, 10% you 💐💐💐💐 5y

I can‘t stand it. Maybe the audiobook wouldn‘t seem so overly-intellectual to me but the physical copy … Often I don‘t even see through … All this Roman-Greek-intellectual-poem-bla-bla. Additionally, I don‘t see a timeline structure.

For me, it‘s too much a fight to read it. Not what I need at the moment.

Anyway, I will keep the book for maybe later. Even if I feel too stupid for it. Do I need to know more about their real lifes❓ Suggestions❓

Moony Oh I love Connie Palmen. But I don't know this book. 5y
Buechersuechtling @Moony For me, it was the other way around. Well, kind of. Until that book I never had heard of her. This being a fictional diary of Ted Hughes is, what rose my interest. I haven‘t put it on the “public bookcase”-stack yet. I feel, I might like the audiobook but have no money to spend. 5y

“We think we are writing something to amuse, but we‘re actually saying something we desperately need to share. The real mystery is this strange need. Why can‘t we just hide it and shut up? Why do we have to blab? Why do human beings need to confess? Maybe, if you don‘t have that secret confession, you don‘t have a poem – don‘t even have a story. Don‘t have a writer.

Ted Hughes”

⬆️⬆️⬆️ it‘s already starting with something to think about.

“Sylvia Plath and Ted Hughes are the most famous lovers of modern literature – and the most tragic: After Sylvia‘s suicide in 1963, she was regarded as a martyr, while her husband was regarded as a traitor, which he never spoke of throughout his life. In this fictional autobiography, he breaks his silence. Palmen makes him look back on his passionate marriage and describe this love newly.”

A book I wanted to read ever since I accidentally stumbled across a newspaper article that talked about it. So I was really happy when I snatched it at a book thrift.

Let‘s get started … 😍

Pickpick

Wie ein atemloser, ganz persönlicher Bericht von Ted Hughes. Mitreißend und eindringlich. Aber auch Fragen tun sich auf: Wie würde das Buch aus Plaths Sicht geschrieben und erzählt sein? #TedHughes #SylviaPlath #ConniePalmen #diogenes
