Bones of Faerie | Janni Lee Simner
2 posts | 12 read | 14 to read
The war between humanity and Faerie devastated both sides. Or so 15-year-old Liza has been told. Nothing has been seen or heard from Faerie since, and Lizas world bears the scars of its encounter with magic. Trees move with sinister intention, and the town Liza calls home is surrounded by a forest that threatens to harm all those who wander into it. Then Liza discovers she has the Faerie ability to seeinto the past, into the futureand she has no choice but to flee her town. Lizas quest will take her into Faerie and back again, and what she finds along the way may be the key to healing both worlds. Janni Lee Simners first novel for young adults is a dark fairy-tale twist on apocalyptic fictionas familiar as a nightmare, yet altogether unique. From the Hardcover edition.

⭐⭐💫
I really wanted to love this one. It's dystopian faerie fantasy, taking place following a war between humanity and Fae. Lots of promise with this unique idea, but it just doesn't pan out.
Liza discovers that she has traits of magic (punishable by death in her village). This sets her off on a journey to find her mother who abandoned her.

TW: death of an infant. It happens in the first few pages and carries through the rest of the plot.

The library is having a BOGO book sale, so I scored both of these for only $.25!
Between all the Neil Gaiman, mythology, and psychology I have been reading lately, these were calling to me.
