#5joysFriday Thanks @DebinHawaii for the tag! One of my favorite times of the week

1) spending last weekend with Mom and Dad
2) book haul for Mother‘s Day
3) growing tomatoes
4) son‘s receiving highest Eagle Scout scholarship from his troop
5) finding an awesome restaurant for #Spain #foodandlit

dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 Congrats to your son, too! 1d

My daughter and I tried Toro, a Spanish (as opposed to Mexican) food restaurant for #foodandlit. It was extraordinary! We had montaditos (queso de cabra frito) which knocked our socks off. Then we shared baguette sandwiches (jamón serrano with manchego cheese and cochinita pibil) and salads, and for dessert, torrijas. Toro was a brilliant find and a new restaurant for our list of places to go like last month‘s Venezuelan restaurant. #Spain

#FOODANDLIT SPAIN 🇪🇸

My FOOD & LITERATURE country for May. I have studied Spain in school extensively during my four years of language and history Spanish classes.
That being said, I decided to get guides, an art book, a cookbook and a memoir.

I love memoirs ♥️🇪🇸

Pickpick

I wanted to love this book but it reminded me so much of The Hunger Games, I ended up feeling like it lacked originality and missed many opportunities. I liked the story: girls and one boy compete in a magical competition to become the king of Spain‘s magician, at a time when the Inquisition was still quite a threat to witches. The Familiar, as in the title, is the main character‘s “coach” through the games. I was sad the Inquisition played ⬇️

Texreader such a minor role in the book. I‘ve read books about the inquisition in #Spain and its Jews. It‘s a sad history that is worth reminding the world about now. So it‘s an entertaining read but if I gave a title to my review it would be: Missed Opportunities. #foodandlit @Catsandbooks 4d

Spanish food for #foodandlit. Chocolate tres leches cake was a hit. Chicken paella, the kids loved the chicken more than the rice. @Texreader @Catsandbooks

Texreader Oh I‘ll take the cake!! 😋 4d

I finished A Heart so White on Friday. It wasn't bad by any stretch, but it didn't speak to me. A shame because the main character is an interpreter & I love reading about linguists 😑
Today, I made fideuà, a Catalan dish similar to paella, but with pasta instead of rice. I first ate it on holiday in Sitges, and have been making it from time to time ever since: it's a good Sunday lunch option for us!
