Thank you to @BeckyMerilatt for recommending this book. I enjoyed Liesel and Po a bit more, but this was just as cute. A single dad and his daughter Cordelia care for Monsters. One day her dad and all the monsters disappear, leaving Cordelia on her own. She sets off on an epic adventure to bring them home. My 9 year old was not as interested in this book, but I would recommend giving this a try as she still enjoyed listening to bits and pieces.

Author Jenny Lawson is having Booksgiving on her blog. (Thebloggess) I‘ve gifted a couple books today to people that shared their amazon wishlist on today‘s blog post. (Addresses are hidden) Just sharing in case someone was in need of a book and wanted to comment on the blog. Or for anyone that would enjoy sending a book to a stranger. Happy #Booksgiving

Sorry I‘ve been MIA with migraines. This week I‘ve re-listened to the Spellslinger series. I‘ve enjoyed it more this time around. Still haven‘t listen to the final book in the series that was released in December. I thought book 5 Queenslayer was the final book.

wanderinglynn Oh no! I hope you‘re feeling better. Migraines suck! 💚 4y
Panic70 Thank you @wanderinglynn I‘m used to getting them often but I‘ve only had a few good days the last two months. At this point I‘m trying anything. I should find an old potions books. 😂 4y
Texreader So sorry you‘ve been feeling so badly. I‘ve not had a great year myself with my chronic back problems and newly diagnosed thyroid problems. So so difficult. I look forward to meeting you and commiserating! 4y
Panic70 @Texreader Sorry you‘ve not had a great year either. Thank goodness for books! I would lose my ever loving mind if I couldn‘t listen to books right now. Limiting my screen time, and very light sensitive. I can‘t wait to meet up! We can have a going Nowhere Litsy secret club. 😁 4y

#potteraday The Polyjuice Potion. It‘s Christmas time at Hogwarts. Harry receives another Weasley jumper. The US version describes his present as a hand-knitted sweater from Mrs. Weasley and a large plum cake. Hermione‘s talent as a witch is highlighted in this chapter, but something goes horribly wrong for her by the end. The trio also end up with more questions than answers about the Chamber of Secrets.

Eggbeater Is a "jumper" the same thing as a sweater? I'm in the US and I have no idea what a jumper is. 4y
Panic70 @eggbeater Yes a jumper is the same as a sweater. I‘ve found most knitters from other countries call it a jumper too. And in one of the movies Ginny asks her mom where her jumper is, and the reply is it‘s on the cat. I originally thought it was like overalls. 😂 4y
Linsy @Panic70 So did I!! Or like my skirt overalls I had growing up, lol. 4y

Another listen to Jenny Lawson‘s audiobook Furiously Happy. This one deals with her mental health and other health issues a bit more than Let‘s Pretend this Never Happened. Today her blog theblogness was about depression and finding delight in everyday life. Jenny swears like a sailor and is beautifully weird and humorous. Can‘t wait for her bookstore to open! The photo is from her blog of Rory and Rory2. Today I found delight by knitting.

Enchanted_Bibliophile Ignore my comment on GR 😜. This is one of my favourites. I like listening to it when I feel low. Her issues and the way she deals with them always makes me lol 4y
Panic70 @Enchanted_Bibliophile When she opens up her bookstore I can pick something up for you. I can relate to so much that she talks about and she‘s just so delightful and funny. I should post some excerpts from her books. 😂 4y
Enchanted_Bibliophile Did even know she'd be opening one. 4y

Panic70 @Enchanted_Bibliophile It will be the Nowhere bookstore and it‘s in my city. And we have very few independent bookstores. So it‘s even more of an event. I found out from another Litten or I would have missed it! 4y
Enchanted_Bibliophile That is awesome! I feel your pain about the independent bookstore. Here where I live is only a small useless little chain store that over-charged us for everything. So I mostly do online purchases, or I need to drive 100 km to find a proper bookstore. 4y
K.Wielechowski I LOVE Jenny Lawson! I got her coloring book and it is so amazing. 4y
Panic70 @Enchanted_Bibliophile I‘ll be sure to put together something to send you. They‘re still doing construction on the building but it should open this year. 4y
Panic70 @K.Wielechowski I was looking at that. I need it in my life. 😁 4y
K.Wielechowski @Panic70 you do indeed! 🤪 4y
Mandigolightly I‘ve read Let‘s Pretend This Never Happened by her and LOVED it 4y

And.....we are already at the half way mark and 50% done with HPCoS. November 7th 1992 and Dobby makes another appearance. #potteraday With every reread I tend to waver on my feelings for Dobby in this book. At the beginning I‘m frustrated with him, by the end I love him. I also remember very little about Nov 1992. (Book timeline not publishing date) I think I had just returned from vacation in Hawaii. Where were you or what were you doing in 92?

Eggbeater I was in High School, I had just turned 15. I was living with my grandparents. 4y
MissAimz_55 I was 5 years old. I don‘t remember anything haah 4y
Panic70 @WomanistBibliophile @Literary_Siren @MissAimz_55 It‘s so cool you are all about the age Harry was when the book was published! 4y
Panic70 @AmyK1 I‘m glad the series is now for everyone. I remember secretly reading it. 😁 @Eggbeater were you able to go to the book releases? 4y
WomanistBibliophile Yes, I was 10 when I read Philosopher‘s Stone in ‘97 and definitely one of those kids harbouring a secret wish for a letter addressed to me in green ink promising to whisk me away into a world of magic 😂 4y
Panic70 @WomanistBibliophile How fun! My oldest two were born in 88 and 89, but refused to read the books. As did my third child born in 95. Guess I just had to keep having kids until I had one that enjoys HP. 😂 She‘s almost 10 and is a Gryffinpuff. 4y
Clare-Dragonfly I had recently turned six years old. So I guess I was in first grade. I remember my teachers‘ and best friend‘s names, and the class guinea pigs, but not a lot of detail. 4y
Panic70 @Clare-Dragonfly That‘s amazing you remember the guinea pigs. Looks like you were the perfect age when the books were released. ❤️ 4y
Linsy Lol, I might be the youngest one here. I was turning 1! 😄 A teacher introduced me in 5th grade. I honestly had no idea there were such things as release parties. I do remember when the 5th book came out though. My dad said that we could each get a Christmas present from something called Amazon and I pre-ordered Order of the Phoenix. I got it the day it came out! I was twelve and I felt very cool. (edited) 4y
Panic70 @Linsy lol on the Amazon gift. Smart dad move though. And great memory. My youngest loves the series and she was born in 2010. I think it‘s interesting how everyone has a different experience, but it‘s enjoyed by all ages. 4y

Staying on top of #potteraday even with a migraine.I could use one of Madam Pomfrey‘s cures. I got a muggle injection in the butt cheeks instead. 😂 The Writing on the Wall has so much squeezed in one chapter. Prof Binns tells the students about the chamber while mispronouncing names. Hermione reads up on polyjuice potion. The trio discovers spiders leaving the castle. And Ron delivers one of his classic lines.

GHABI4ROSES Love me my #potteraday and wishing you well🙏🏾 4y

Harry ends up in Filch‘s office after getting muddy footprints on the floor. Nearly Headless Nick convinces Peeves to make a distraction so Harry doesn‘t get in trouble. I‘m fairly certain the vanishing cabinet that is damaged is the one Draco must fix in HPHBP. Always amazes me how long J.K. waited to connect things from previous books. HPCoS was published in 1998. HPHBP was published in 2005. I can‘t even remember yesterday. #potteraday

reading_rainbow amazing 4y

Kristy_K I noticed this this time reading too! I agree, it amazes me how detailed and nuanced her books are. One sentence from book two ends up playing a huge role in book 6. 4y
Enchanted_Bibliophile I don't get the critics. If you don't like something move on and find something you like and is happy with. I'd much rather look for the awesome stuff like @Kristy_K said a sentence in book2 has a huge impact in book6. Why not just enjoy the adventure? 4y
Panic70 @Enchanted_Bibliophile I know, right? There are so many books out there. It‘s ok to not enjoy a book, but I could do without the armchair quarterbacks. 4y

For my #januarywrapup I am not counting the number of books I‘ve read this month. It caused a bit of stress last year to have a goal. Even though I surpassed it I was fixated on the number. So this year I am figuring out the value I receive from my public library. I only counted books I finished, and books I‘ve borrowed from either of my two public libraries. Most were audiobooks and some ebooks. $454.48

With a 4hr and 47 minute audiobook running time, this was a quick mystery. Interesting characters and perhaps more humor or triller than mystery. Borrowed from the library, but it‘s list price is very expensive for the run time. Most books over $25 have a 24 hr running time. So it‘s pick only if it‘s the price of a novella or less.

I found out from fellow litten @Texreader that Jenny Lawson is opening Nowhere Bookstore in our town. So I relistened to this one to celebrate. In my house we embrace weird. This book is delightfully weird. Also lots of swearing, odd taxidermy, and mental health issues. This book was the bright light in a trying week. I‘m the caregiver for my husband and today we are switching to a new dr. I also embrace the positive. Sometimes change is good.

runswithscissors007 New dr‘s can be exhausting. Take care 4y
Panic70 @runswithscissors007 Thank you for your thoughtfulness. We are switching to a family friend and he‘s already been amazing. My husband has an ultrasound this am and an appointment this afternoon. And he messaged last night to check up on him. 4y
runswithscissors007 @Panic70 well that sounds like you have a real gem! Also, I will look up this book. We are all about the weird here too 🤓🤪 4y
Panic70 @runswithscissors007 I also enjoyed her book Furiously Happy. She has a book club on her blog but I think it might be sold out at 2,000 books. However her January pick was a weird one. I read a sample. It‘s Follow Me to Ground by Sue Rainsford. It‘s a whole new level of weird. 4y

January 31 The Whomping Willow #potteraday I‘ve read HPCoS 30+ times and I still notice details I‘ve missed. When Ginny is waiting to be sorted I realize she‘s ridden on the Hogwarts Express knowing Ron and Harry are missing. I can‘t imagine how nervous and worried she must be at that moment. I would guess she sat next to Hermione on the train. Imagine Hermione ‘They‘re going to be expelled!‘ ‘What do they think they‘re doing?‘

January 28 HPCoS Chapter Two Dobby‘s warning. It took me a long time to realize that Mafalda Hopkirk from the Improper use of magic office was the same witch Hermione impersonated in DH to break into the ministry. I‘ve also always wonder how Dobby has all of Harry‘s letters. Owls are pretty persistent on delivering letters to the right person, how did they not wait to hand them to Harry? This chapter ends on a cliff hanger too! #potteraday

Linsy Oh my gosh, you're right! I hadn't connected Mafalda Hopkirk to the last book. And it's a good point about the letters. I think it just shows us how strong and unknown elf magic really is. 4y

Fifth time giving this audiobook a listen. James Marsters (aka Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as narrator is why I enjoy this book so much. One book in the series has a different narrator and I struggled through it. Also, not a fan of the author‘s description of female characters. Pros: Wizard for hire in Chicago, a mob boss, and vampires... plus side kicks a plenty. A fairy that loves pizza and a talking skull that likes romance books? Yes!

Decent patterns by various designers. Oddly written as it‘s for beginner knitters, but includes complex projects like a brioche hat and several sweaters or jumpers. Also includes directions on how to take a bath and how to make tea. Still shocked over the directions to add fruit jelly to tea. Is this an actual thing? Worth noting, there is a pattern for a hat that was made for baby Harry Potter but wasn‘t used due to the warm weather.

julesG Fruit jelly in tea is a thing in Russia. Not my thing, by the way. Just know about it from visiting Russian born friends. 4y
Panic70 @julesG Thank you! Probably far from the overly sweet artificial American fruit jelly. 4y
julesG Homemade, most often. Blackberry or black currants, I think. It's for sweetening, but I'd definitely prefer honey. BTW, I share your thoughts on the book. 4y
Panic70 @julesG I just can‘t imagine a world where a knitter that can make sweaters and socks needs advice on how to take a bath. 😂 If you find a knitting book you enjoy feel free to tag me. 😁 4y
julesG Will do. 4y

My kind of girls day. Skipped school. 😬 Bought some books. Enjoyed a 50/50 burger. (beef and bacon mince) Now we are hanging out at the pool. This book (play) starts with a Langston Hughes poem. Looks promising.

Took my 9 year old to a used book store and she made quick work of picking out some books from a couple series she enjoys.

Pickpick

Not usually a fan of romance, however I really enjoyed the relationship between Amelia and Jules. I discovered Amie Kauffman late last year and have enjoyed every book and series she has written. YA book with mild language and violence.

Thank you @LibrarianRyan for the tag. 🔸I found HPPS on CD narrated by Stephen Fry. 🔸We are out of town for a meeting. Hoping to finish a knit hat and visit some bookstores. 🔸I just started Undying by Amie Kauffman. 🔸Still new so everyone I know has already played along. #thoughtfulthursday

The Cutting Edge | Jeffery Deaver

Mehso-so

I finished, although the last 50% was a bit of a chore. Deserves a solid so-so as I could not guess what the twist would be, as there‘s always a twist in Deaver‘s books. The picture is of the Hope Diamond. The cutting edge title refers to diamonds.

Chapter ten Halloween for today‘s #potteraday #readalong #harrypotter This is the point in the book when Harry and Ron become friends with Hermione. I love the end of the chapter when it explains a shared experience made them friends. It goes along with my Bible study on friendship. This week is all about being vulnerable. “The shortest distance between strangers and friends is a shared awkward story.” Lisa-Jo Baker. Troll bogeys=friendship

#currently listening/reading Just added Unearthed to my already overreaching list. I‘m currently reading HPPS in paperback, kindle, and listening on overdrive and on CD. Such a Fun Age I have to limit when I listen due to language.

DebinHawaii Great Harry Potter collage! 😍 4y
Panic70 Thank you @DebinHawaii It was a fun way to add a bit more enjoyment to my reading. ❤️ 4y
Linsy Love it! Did you ever listen to Pottercast? That quote from Hermione about going to bed always reminds me of their opening. 4y
Panic70 @Linsy I missed Pottercast. 😩 For a long time I kept my obsession to myself. When HP first came out it was considered only for kids. 4y

Found a used copy of HP and the Philosopher‘s Stone read by Stephen Fry on CD. My 9 year old asked “What are those?” when she saw the CDs. 🤣 Ready for #potteraday now.

Enchanted_Bibliophile Check out @Linsy. She's the #PotterADay host. 4y

Picking though the Lincoln Rhyme series that I haven‘t already read. The last 4 or 5 in this series are meh. This was book number 13. Bit disappointed really that book number 13 was underwhelming. Creepy bad guy that leaves a noose made of cello strings as a calling card.

DebinHawaii I haven‘t read any of the books but I just caught the first episode of the television series the other night & enjoyed it. 4y
Panic70 @DebinHawaii I highly recommend the first 4 or 5 in the series. The later ones are fine, but the developing relationship between Lincoln and Amelia is not to be missed. 4y
DebinHawaii Good to know! I‘ll try to squeeze some in. 📚📚📚📚😬📚📚📚 4y

American girl gets shipped off to an English boarding school. I feel like I should have enjoyed this book more. This will be another #readalsoin2020 I will forget entirely what this book is about soon. A secret society, mysterious messages from an anonymous “friend” and the disappearance or death of her father years earlier. This should have been a gloriously dark MG book. Still worth reading.
