I loved this. I think it lacked some of the wonderful character development of The House in the Cerulean Sea, but it still totally sucked me in. I was crying by the end of this cozy heartwarming book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BennettBookworm Completely agree. I think Cerulean Sea devoted more time to characters where this one devoted more time to life lessons, which sometimes got to be too much for me, but by the end I still felt moved and enjoyed this one, too. 2y

This was so much fun and such an interesting premise. Also a surprise perfect read for groundhogs day as we follow Nora through some of the lives she could be leading if she made different decisions. It had a pretty predictable ending but I am ok with that. Really lovely quick read.

I‘ve been meaning to read this for awhile but dismissed it as your average YA fairy book. I was so wrong. It may even start out that way but this book is so atmospheric I literally had to turn the lights on once in a while when I was reading before bed. Such a unique premise (that I won‘t go in to because *spoilers*). Can‘t wait to get into the next book.

This left me with a lot of thoughts. Part of me hated all of the characters, alternating between actively disliking them and just feeling exasperated. That being said I was riveted. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I knew more Shakespeare, but it was still solid and atmospheric and definitely a read I wild recommend.

This was so good! A bunch of strong woman who can do amazing things, some not boring courtroom drama, and lots of suspense it was right up my alley. This was the last book I finished in 2020 and it was such a nice way to close out the year.

I get the criticism that this was a bit unnecessary (but I think that‘s a true of a lot of sequels) and also dragged a bit at the beginning. But I loved it. The added time constraints this time for the adventure really upped the stakes. They definitely left a story untold in the middle there so I wouldn‘t be surprised if we get that one next.

I spent a good potion of this book really frustrated with the main characters decisions. It always seemed like she knew the right thing to do and then did the opposite. But I loved the story and the very real examination of the trauma of slavery that is totally absent in most YA‘s. I definitely see why this made it to lots of best of 2020 lists. Can‘t wait for the rest of the series!

Alix Harrow is quickly becoming a favorite after this and 10000 Doors of January. I don‘t think I liked it as much but it was a close second and an amazing story in its own right. Set in a world where witchcraft is very real but has been outlawed as another way to oppress women, three sisters work together to bring witchcraft back amid the suffragette movement.

I picked this up because I wanted to get out of a slump (mostly a hangover from how much I loved 10 thousand doors of January) but I ended up really liking it. The romance was understated in that Austen way while still being firmly modern. The villains were evil and got their comeuppance. Altogether a really nice fluffy retelling with some serious subject matters thrown in.

I found this book slightly bonkers and more graphic then I thought it would be at times. But I loved a dystopian where the end of the world event just happened rather than so long ago that no one remembers anything. It was nice to learn along with the main character what was going on. Also it felt like the YA angst was at a minimum, and the world building just starting so I‘ll definitely read the rest of the series.

TheAromaofBooks It's taken me several years to be able to adjust to that attitude. I used to finish every book no matter what, but now that I have a TBR with hundreds of books it just seems silly to force myself to wade through something that isn't working for me. Here on Litsy I've also learned to love the term 'hibernation' for a book that isn't working right now... but might work when I'm in a different mood later haha That definitely happens, too! 3y

So I would be lying if I didn‘t seriously think about bailing on this a couple of times. A retelling of beauty and the beast, definitely not my favorite (looking at you ACOTAR). However, I did get into it by the end and will most likely read the rest of the series. I like that it doesn‘t really focus much on the love triangle and in fact is realistic that she would probably not fall in love with anyone under the circumstances.
