Becoming | Michelle Obama

Pickpick

This book is insightful and full of wise words. I have almost read up until the 7th chapter now and Michelle Obama has given us lots of insight into her teenage life. During the last few years of her high-school experience, she transferred to a private more expensive school. Her parents struggled to pay for it, however they always did what was necessary to give her the highest education possible.

Affia Michelle talks about the emotions that came with having to break off her relationship with a young man named David when she moved away. She decided to join her brother and attend Princeton University, which at that time was a predominantly white school. Michelle tells us about the pressure she felt to achieve greatness and how hard it was to find a place to fit in. 3y
Affia The book is in first person point of view; Michelle tells the story of her life and addresses other characters with pronouns like “he”, “she”, “they” and more. We get to hear her point of view but not the point of view of others. If you like books that push you to step out of your comfort zone and consider a different way of thinking, then this book will certainly captivate you. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Affia!!! I am so glad that you are enjoying the book! 6/6 3y

Becoming by Michelle Obama gives us insight into what the life of a successful and monumental woman consists of. I have not yet finished the book, but I definitely will. It begins with Michelle recalling her childhood aspirations and then fast forwards to her family moving out of the White House. Michelle describes the community she had during infancy and how over time, she and her community began to change.

Affia Even as a child, Michelle was lawyerly, curious, and very outspoken. As the story continues, Michelle‘s strong personality is put to the test as she faces things like being the only black woman in a room. A recurring motif is courage. 3y
Affia Michelle is courageous in the face of her strong-willed great-aunt, courageous in the face of exclusion, courageous in the face of bullying, and most importantly, courageous when faced with fear. Without courage, neither Michelle nor her husband would have achieved such greatness. If you like books that push you to become the best version of yourself and inspire your entire being, this is the book for you. 3y
