Mehso-so

This was just okay. I did the audio and every time I listened I felt like I was watching a Disney educational reel from back in the day. This is an alt history but all of the characters were morally gray so it was hard to actually root for any of them. It also felt more like three novellas tied together by genealogy. There were definitely a lot of -isms that definitely left a bad taste.

#BookReport
I failed at all my reading goals this week but I mean it happens so I'm trying not to dwell on that. I've gotten to about 71% of the tagged and 48% in Grass. I also realized I'm never going to catch up with the ReadingWesteros read a long so I've put that book to the side and maybe I'll read it later or maybe not.

#WeeklyForecast
Goal this week is pretty much the same as last week: Finish both of my current reads.

Bombs Away: The Hot War | Harry Turtledove

When the Cold War goes hot the world suffers. Turtledove pulls no punches. I‘m looking forward to continuing this trilogy. Finished Jun 30, 2023.

I am posting one book (or series) per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description or reason for wanting to read the book. Some are old and some will be new. Don't judge me - I have a lot of books.
Day 263

timeisfleeting I think that is a lovely idea! (and I love vintage books-- they are my particular favorite!) 3y

Bailedbailed

So I #DNF this June #doublespin number 3 book. I‘ve owned this for about 5 years and was looking forward to it because it‘s an alternate history book. But it is way too military focused which is not my type of read. There are also a million characters in this book and I have no clue who is who. I got about 100 pages in and just can‘t get myself to pick it back up. This can go in the donation pile.

TheAromaofBooks That's a shame it fizzled out!! I love alternate history, too, and that one has such a fun cover!! 4y
mollyrotondo @TheAromaofBooks I know. I read a million reviews to see if that would intrigue me to keep going but a lot of his fans said that this one wasn‘t his best so I knew I had no hope lol 4y
TheAromaofBooks Yeah, I get bogged down in military descriptions as well! 4y

Bailedbailed

I got a Crosstime Traffic book free about a decade ago and never started it. Thought i would pull something off the pile that I've been putting off.

But... I had no idea this was YA. And it comes across as badly written YA. Everything is explained in the most didactic way possible, as if told by an adult who thinks young people are dumb.

Bailed less than a chapter in. 🤬🤬🤬

I finally got this today at BAM, book 3 of the Hot War trilogy. For reasons beyond me, they published the first two books in paperback and the 3rd in hardback. I'm one of those people who want their series all the same format. If I start in paperback, I want them all in paperback, and the same if if I start in hardback. I don't think I'm weird in this, right?

#TBRtemptation post 2! Just released. The final stop in the The Hot War series by the only guy capable of giving Bernard Cornwell a run for his money. Alternate history's Harry's game; this time, it's what could've happened if MacArthur set off a nuclear war in the '50s. Not only is it about the world's first nuclear war, but how humanity picks up whatever pieces are left. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎
