Reading The Ceiling | Dayo Forster

Pickpick

A bit delayed, but I completed the August #ReadAroundTheWorld country of #Gambia. There seemed to be a limited selection of titles to choose from, but I mostly enjoyed this one. The book is set up kind of like Sliding Doors- revealing Ayodele‘s life in three paths based on one decision on her 18th birthday- who to sleep with. I liked the details of her different daily lives the most, but thought some differences were unrelated to her choice.

BookwormM I enjoyed this one and yes choice was limited but I am finding Luxembourg even harder to find a book 🤣🤣 4y
TorieStorieS @BookwormM I actually found one that was listed and I already have a copy on my TBR- 4y

#AboutAugust Day 21: It can be deduced from the narrative how the lack of awareness and education about the ill-effects of plastic is an even bigger issue in the community. Rather than despair, Isatou took it upon herself to transform garbage into something useful and beautiful – with the support, #assistance, and active help of a few women who believed in her vision. Eggs Beautiful book 💗📚💗 4y

#readaroundtheworld #thegambia Written in a straight forward manner, the story starts with the exact same conditions as Do They Hear You When You Cry, the book I read for Togo. Our narrator has lost her father and her uncle decides to marry her off to a rich, older man with three other wives. To please her husband, she must under go female genital excision. The devastation of realizing this is a “common” story overrode the actual book.

Currey @sprainedbrain @rockpools @BookishTrish @Simona @BookwormM I did learn a great deal about The Gambia however. The country is completely surrounded by Senegal, it is largely Muslim, the majority of the population is under the age of 30 and they put peanuts in everything as it is their main crop for both domestic use and export 4y
BookwormM Good that it taught you a lot bad you didn‘t enjoy it 4y
