Initially I wasn‘t sure I was going to like this; I found the main character unsympathetic. But as the story progressed, it turned into a page-turner that not only provides a good crime thriller story, but also provides a lot of food for thought.

It was hard to decide on a rating for this one. A 5 star rating is one I give out to those books that I fall head first into and don't want to ever set the book aside until I finish it. This wasn't a book like that. Although it was such a good story. I sped through the beginning and then couldn't read more than a little of it it at a time through the rest. But it's good. I got a lot out of it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
I loved Hope and Tyler Steele so much.

I have been totally failing at the #roll100 challenge this year. I‘m not sure I‘ve read a book that‘s actually been picked. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Here‘s my August picks!

Whoa. This was...not what I was expecting. And I loved it. I think I saw a description of it that called it a thriller, which initially turned me off. I am not the biggest fan of thrillers. I would call this a regular ol' murder mystery.

A double homicide in a small town in rural East Texas leads a disgraced-ish Black Texas Ranger to figure his own shit out while figuring out who killed the black man and white woman. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐

It took me two tries to get into this, gritting my teeth at times while reading, and persistence to finish. It wasn‘t terrible, but I just could not connect with any character. The fictional story of two murders in a small-town in Texas was highly rated, but it was scattered with no central theme and the ending seemed too far out. I was disappointed because it was called one of the best of that year. 🧐

This sequel to Bluebird, Bluebird took me a while to get into, maybe because the first book was exceptionally good. This time Texas Ranger Darren Mathews is making some questionable decisions, his mind primarily on saving his career, even though a child has gone missing on vast Caddo Lake. That child, Levi King, is the 9-year-old son of an imprisoned white supremacist, & the truth about his disappearance is as complicated as the region's history.

Predictable, but an easy, sweet read.
