I wanted a new series and saw this one posted but didn't read anything about it. A definite 4.25☆ Kara is back in her hometown on administrative leave from LAPD . She stumbles across a murder on her morning jog. Thus begins her involvement with the FBI ⬇️

Crazeedi New mobile response unit under Matt Costa. She is an undercover cop in LA and her unique skills are critical to finding what turns out to be a serial killer. Costa needs those skills as they have 48 hrs before the next victim is killed. 1mo

My favorite delivery of the day: Auntie‘s Books in downtown Spokane! (As featured in one of the stories in Jess Walter‘s fine collection.) This is the first of two cartloads - 44 pieces total. Great selection and great people too!

dabbe 🤩🤩🤩 2mo
Hooked_on_books It‘s a great store—I‘ve been there! 2mo
DocBrown Yeah @Hooked_on_books? Visiting, passing through, or close to home? 2mo
Hooked_on_books I was there for a week teaching people how to use a new medical records system (I know, very exciting) and had a little time to check out the local haunts. This was almost 11 years ago, so it‘s been a while! 2mo

3¾⭐
A couple of issues…one, this was way too long. Second, I had a difficult time connecting with Quinn and Costa. I‘m not necessarily loving this crime-solving duo the way I am with Regan Merritt from another series by this author. But we‘ll see if the next book steps it up a notch. Also, I really wish there was a second narrator for the male POV.

“I guess remembering is better than living.“
This was a fantastic collection filled with characters who are down & out: some living on the edges of society due to poverty & or addiction, while a few are plain unlikeable. There is a broad range here: from the lyrical title story which spans nearly 4 decades that speaks of the desire of & impossibility of transcending circumstance, to the zombie dystopian Don't Eat Cat which is very much an (cont)

vivastory addiction tale set in a ruined society, to Thief a tale of a suburban dad who suspects one of his children of stealing from the family's vacation fund & goes to an unusual length to catch the thief. Denis Johnson is a clear influence, but not in a derivative way. This is the first book I have read in the HP Olive Edition Story Collection, but I will def be reading more.

vivastory @megabooks looking through the feed just now for this book I had to lol when I saw your post about this a few years ago. 1y
Megabooks I started reading the review on the throwback post, and I was like that sounds a lot like this book (tagged)! (And I think it was.) Loved this story collection! 1y
Megabooks I really want to try Walter‘s nonfiction. Have you read this? 1y
vivastory @Megabooks This was the first Walter that I have read. I will have to def. check out that tagged book, I remember when it came out but if I did add it to my TBR list it's been lingering! 1y

⚠️Attention Littens who participated in #LMPBC in early 2021! Due to a deep depression, a break-up, and just a dark hole of time…I never read these or mailed them back. Now, I don‘t remember who to send them to 🤷🏻‍♀️ If these are yours, please let me know so I can send them home to you! I am so very sorry (depression is a soul sucker…) and want you to get your books back. 📖♥️📖

peaKnit Take care❤️ 1y

This collection of short stories from Spokane, Seattle, and Portland is enticing and even comedic at times. I often wished some of the stories went on longer. Covers topics from addiction and poverty and survival and relational hurts. So while an easy read in the length and well-writtenness, it‘s heavier on the topic matter of stories.

#FallTreasures #Day24 #NativeAmericanDay

Catching up on posts from the weekend, since I was out of town and away from my books.

I read the tagged book in my Literature of the American West class back in college, and got Lone Ranger and Tonto signed by Sherman Alexie when he spoke at my college.

Suet624 I‘ve wanted to meet Alexie forever. 3y
SamAnne I know he has been a #MeToo casualty and it was with warrant, but wow his memoir You Don‘t Have to Say You Love Me is great. He had a brain tumor when he was writing it and switches from prose to poem. Dammit Sherman! Why couldn‘t you keep it in your pants!!!!!!! 3y
Kimberlone @Suet624 it was over 10 years ago when I saw him speak, but I do remember it being fantastic. @SamAnne yes it‘s unfortunate that his literary legacy has been tainted now by his own bad behavior (similar to Junot Diaz as well 😞), since he has such a powerful voice and perspective. At least we still have the beautiful writing. (edited) 3y
Suet624 @SamAnne yes, I‘ve read all of his books and will always have compassion for him. 3y
Eggs Great choice! I‘ve read several Alexie books 😔 3y

I‘ve only read one other book by Allison Brennan and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed this one also! It is the first in a new series featuring Kara Quinn and Matt Costa. I have to read the second one ASAP! I look forward to future books in this series because I loved it. 🌟🌟🌟🌟!
