Fleishman Is in Trouble: A Novel | Taffy Brodesser-Akner

Pickpick

This book seems like a polarizing one and I can understand why. Toby Fleishman is divorcing his wife and finding his way in a dating world of apps. He reflects on his wife and why their marriage failed. I loved the tone of this book, but Toby‘s portion was so long, with only a brief part at the end devoted to his wife‘s perspective, which was vital to the story. For that reason, I gave it four stars instead of five. #redwhiteorbluetype #booked2020

Sarahreadstoomuch Would you recommend this for a book group? I‘ve wondered about adding it to our schedule but wasn‘t sure if there was enough for discussion. 4y
Reviewsbylola Absolutely, I think it would lead to a great discussion about marriage and how well you really know your partner. Just a little warning though, there‘s a lot of talk about sex and masturbation. It works in the context of the story imo but I could see it being off putting for some people. I told my mom not to read it for that reason. 😆 @Sarahreadstoomuch 4y
Megabooks Totally agree! Glad you enjoyed it! 4y

Ruthiella I agree...I thought the perspective switch came awfully late. But it really made me think a lot up to then. I didn‘t like Toby at all and couldn‘t quite figure out why until I got to that point. 4y
Reviewsbylola I actually was quite surprised when reading Rachel‘s perspective. I had a feeling that Toby‘s perspective was pretty one sided but it didn‘t become clear to me how much so until her part. Which is a bit embarrassing on my end. 😆 I guess I had a difficult time reconciling the things Rachel had done so I didn‘t expect to feel empathy for her. @Ruthiella 4y

Mehso-so

An autobiographical novel by an author of Russian Jewish descent who returns to his birthplace after 25 years after moving with family from country to country. A story of a child who copes and adjusts to different cultures, languages ... is interesting, but the execution is unsatisfying.

Librarybelle This does sound interesting 4y

Pickpick

I very much enjoyed this one but I wasn‘t completely blown away by it . . . maybe I missed something? The descriptions were great, the setting was beautiful, the characters were vivid . . . but my mind was not blown. Maybe a case of too much hype? Overall a solid pick but I don‘t think that it will go down as one of my all time favorites. #popsugar2020 #booked2020 #redwhiteorbluetype

Merethebookgal It could be a case of too much hype, but I‘ve read it 3 times now and love it more with each reread. It‘s something about the writing that lingers with me and I appreciated more after the first read ❤️ 4y
Moonprismpower I read a review that Morgenstern‘s books are for readers who love books, reading books and not so much plot. But I don‘t know. I didn‘t find this book to be great, I felt lost in words not in the story. I just finished the Starless Sea and was let down. 4y
rachelm I liked this one better than Starless Sea but still wasn‘t blown away. I think she has a devoted readership of people who adore the novels and I just didn‘t quite get to join that club 4y

REPollock I enjoyed it but not as much as I thought I would. It felt like a novelization of a lesser known Tim Burton movie. 4y
Cinfhen I think a film would be magical but the book did fall a little short🎪🤹🏼‍♂️ 4y
Cinfhen Great way to start off #Booked2020 ❤️ 4y
PaperbackPirate Yes I agree. I thought the ending was pretty anticlimactic. 4y
jeannasser This one is on my TBR list for the year 🤘 4y
