This is story told in four voices. Two of the characters are in Vermont and two are in Seattle, and each is trying to find their place in the world. They face bullying and difficulty, but react with kindness and grow from their experiences. Their kindness brings them together and let‘s them know they‘re not alone. The story specifically promotes acceptance and kindness for nonbinary and trans youth.

It‘s a dreary, rainy Saturday morning, so I baked a batch of muffins and am reading a few chapters of this book.

The Mike Bowditch novels are pure fun to read and this one, set largely on a Island bird sanctuary, is no exception. Mike has reunited with his girlfriend, Stacey Stevens, and they‘re on a kayak vacation visiting an island where Stacey studied Puffins. Someone has been threatening the staff, and there are lots of suspects from lobstermen to stalking photographers. Then a horrible tragedy strikes. Great Maine vistas, and the usual tight plot.

#AugustARCs My first finished one for the month. A decent mystery about a Maine game warden and his GF who stumble upon 3 murders. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

I‘ve lived in Maine my whole life and know many men and women in varying branches of law enforcement so maybe that helps make these books a smooth treat for me? I truly think the series gets better with each installment. This is my favorite so far! The author has given us a crime fighting duo by adding with commitment a strong and intelligent female partner to our main character and I cannot wait to be with them both again! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I meant to finish this last night, but feel asleep reading. As you can tell by that comment, not my favorite Mike Bowditch book. It's number 13 and Doiron took him out of his comfort zone, the Maine Woods.

The book just didn't keep my attention as good as the others have. I prefer Bowditch in the Maine Woods.

Just to clarify, this is 13th but my first book in this mystery series about Mike Bowditch, a game warden in Maine. I was able to catch on fairly quickly however. Mike and gf Stacey investigate a double homicide on a seabird sanctuary research facility off the coast. Could it be a local lobsterman, someone from nearby Ayers Island, the wealthy couple who donated heavily to the station? There‘s obviously violence but also a sexual abuse 🔻

robinb plot line that was especially disturbing. The writing was fine. The story dragged in spots. I never really felt engaged with the characters (the Mike/Stacey relationship needed more of a realistic feel), and the denouement felt rushed and not fully tied up to me. The physical nature descriptions were wonderful, but in the end, this one just wasn‘t for me. 3/5 2y
