The Orchard: A Memoir | Adele Crockett Robertson
post image
Pickpick

This is the memoir of Adele Crockett Robertson, also known as "Kitty", found by her daughter after she passed away in 1979 and published in 1995. It documents the years she worked tirelessly to save the family apple orchard during the Great Depression. While decades have separated us from this history, the story itself is timeless.

Too slow, too vague, and very little resolution. It felt incongruent to the time in which it was set.

DivineDiana That‘s too bad. 😕 9mo
Nebklvr @DivineDiana Others liked it so if it sounds good, give it a whirl. Unless you like a wrapped up ending, then i would suggest giving it a pass. 9mo

This was just so lovely. The ending did feel a bit rushed but it was just a sweet story about loss and friendship and moving forward.

Little Free Library scores from Southport, NC. It‘s been so lovely visiting my brother ❤️ he‘s still my hero, even though we‘re all grown up 😭I snagged him a copy of A Man Called Ove— what a great selection! These two look like tearjerkers too

Bec_lectic Love when you find good books in the Lending Library 😍 12mo

Book 11

The Music of Bees, which I read for a book club, is a solid novel with dynamic, charismatic characters. Alice, Jake, and Harry, all struggling with their familial relationships, form an unlikely bond over Alice's beehives. While there is nothing extraordinary, it's a well-done, uplifting book, written, in-part from the author's experiences as a beekeeper. I'm curious to read her memoir about a sister with autism. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
