Despite being fairly unfamiliar with the 7th Doctor or his companions, this was still a fun read, a nice slow paced mystery that came together logically at the end. Unlike the adventures I've read of the 10th and 11th Doctors, which were self contained stories, this book is really part of series that you need to have read previous books to get the full geist of the characters. 3💥💥💥 1/2 out of 5.
A solid if unremarkable outing for the Seventh Doctor, Benny, and Ace. I'm a bit worried that by jumping around the 61 book series I've already read the best the New Adventures have to offer, but books like this and Blood Heat (which precedes it) are still enjoyable Who stories. These are pretty much the only books I read in paperback anymore, so the copy pictured is mine. (For once, the guy on the cover actually looks like Sylvester McCoy!)
"Don't waste your words, just tell me what you want. And don't try to make your threats stylish. It grates."
The Seventh Doctor doesn't have time for your megalomania.
"Someone has been playing with ⏳, Ace. Like playing with ?, only worse..."
I'm back reading the New Adventures! This one continues from Blood Heat and has Ace & Benny as the Doctor's companions.
There's the obvious #fireandice series option (Game of Thrones if anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about!), but there's also Doctor Who. Quote comes from 'The Family of Blood' episode but have tagged the correct author. #WinterWonderland @Cinfhen @TrishB
Thanks to Goodreads, I just discovered that five years ago this week I was in the middle of my very first Doctor Who New Adventures novel, Lungbarrow -- which was also the second-to-last New Adventures novel. Yes, I started a 61 book series with book 60. And while I was a little lost at times, I fell in love with the scope and complexity of the NAs. Since then I've read 22 more installments, jumping around the series, and I've enjoyed every one.
I didn't love this as much as you would expect given that it sees the Seventh Doctor meeting parallel Earth versions of Liz Shaw and the Brigadier and features the Silurians, but it was enjoyable enough and the hook at the end has me intrigued to see where the New Adventures go next.
